How will the transition to FSX work?
"I know it is a little early, but reports of sightings of FSX in US stores have begun to trickle into the forums of the major FS sites. So far all of these reports involve the store, Best Buy. I have not found it at my local store yet, but will kep checking over the next couple of days In any case, I was wondering what has been decided, and what is known about how we will trasition to the new platform? Obviously a few things need to happen, but I was just wondering what we know at this time. Here are a few hurdles that I can think of. If anyone else cares to chime in, please do. 1. PMDG is planning to release a payware update that will move the 744/744F over to FSX 2. We will need to see if and how well the RFP 742 will work in FSX? 3. Will FSFK work with FSX?"

Here is what I know so far... 1. "A compatibility upgrade for FSX is under development." See this link for details: http://ops.precisionmanuals.com/wiki/PM ... X_Products 2. Don't use the RFP (yes, I know, I should get it etc... ) 3. FSFK 2.8 will not work with FSX. An upgrade is "in the works" but there is no date set when it might be released. See this link: http://www.molitor-home.de/FS/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=496 FSAcars should technically work once FSUIPC 4.0 is released. To my best knowledge, Pete Dawson has 4.0 in beta and it should be out at about the same time FSX comes out. According to the forums, it will not be a free upgrade - in other words, you will have to pay again for 4.0. Please note that it is pure speculation on my part is FSAcars will work or not. The program is simple enough in what it is doing that it should work but on the other hand, it is doing some funky stuff with the ACARS gauge and other things inside of FS that it might not work "out of the box". To my best knowledge, there is no longer any support for this application. I have been looking for a freeware alternative for a while now without luck. (Although I have found a couple of really nice payware loging programs...)"1. PMDG is planning to release a payware update that will move the 744/744F over to FSX 2. "As far as aircraft go, PMDG eluded to the fact that the 744 will not work in FSX, however, we will have an opportunity to fly it in FSX before patches/updates are out. I have a guess of what that means but I'll keep it to myself in case I'm wrong At any rate, there's a 744 in the game with I assume increased systems realism (if it's anything like the CRJ in the demo) which we can use until the PMDG is updated. For the 742, I think Tomas intended to say that he does not use RFP...not "do not use RFP" in FSX. I've heard some reports of how RFP handles FSX. For the most part it sounds like it runs, but some gauges won't work. If RFP doesn't work to our satisfaction prior to an update patch, if any, we will temporarily allow the use of freeware 742 aircraft only, such as from POSKY. Tomas had better answers for FSFK and FSACARS than I do so I won't mention those Justin"
