Callsign question: "Polar" vs "Polar Tiger&qu

"Gents, Can anyone clarify the usage of the "Polar Tiger" callsign? I've heard it used recently in real life as a PAC flight flew overhead my house talking to Washington Center, and Flight Aware (flightaware.com) shows this as their callsign in its website. I also see that some it the aircraft registrations are NxxFT which makes me assume that PAC acquired these ships from the old Flying Tigers fleet. Any validity to that assumption? Thanks"

"Hi Rick, don't really have anything on that for you other than I know there is some history behind Flying Tigers and Polar Air Cargo somewhere there. I remember seeing it in the past from some site where it was talking about some type of transaction between the two a ways back. I tried to find the site but no luck."

"The callsign Polar Tiger was around until about a year ago when it was changed to just Polar. I believe the Tiger dates back to the days Of Flying Tigers as I try to recall how it all happened. I believe when Steven Wolf, the great airline salesman CEO, also of United and USAir fame, sold Flying Tigers to Fedex the 747's weren't part of the deal.
