The end is near at the RFP forum

Post by snipe »

"Hey guys. All those of us who were brought together here due to our interest in flying "The Classic", the RFP forum will be closing down for good here in a few days. A very sad thing. I encourage all those who still fly this wonderful add-on to head over and say their final farewells and thanks to Ralph and the team. They have brought my enjoyment of this hobby to a new level and I'm sure I'm not alone in my feelings so head on over and let'em know before it's too late. Mark"

"I agree with you Mark. Also, I think it would be fun if everybody that has RFP would fly it for it last flight in December. That would be a great show-off."

Great idea Louis! I'll take you up on that suggestion :D . How about everyone else here at Globe Cargo VA? Let's do it in tribute of Ralph and the gang who have given us many hours of enjoyment flying the Classic. Mark

"Hi, I do not understand the "whining" everywhere just becasue a forum is closing. RFP itself will not "die" with its forum. Please keep in mind, RFP is almost four years old and therefore it will not be supported any longer. The V.I.P edition is still alive and even works with FSX. Also there is a forum for all V.I.P members available. The V.IP. edition 'could' be a platform for a new RFP (V3) or whatever it will be called but it is not sure yet as it depends on many factors. So please stop the whining and look ahead....."

I wouldn't say this is whining, I'd say it's just being nostalgic. I think we are seeing this reaction a lot because of the uncertainty of "RFP" as we look ahead. Many of us are VIP members and are excited about the next update and we all hope there will be a "RFPv3". I'll sign up for the flight in the 742...if I can make the fly-in I may even use it on that flight! Justin"

"I was talking with Jaivier the other night about using the 742 for thursdays flyin in honour of the RFP team. now if I can just figure out how to start the engines......ctrl E isnt it?? Bodo, it is always sad when something that has been important in ones life, comes to an end... but I too am looking forward to using the vip in fsx and hopefully an new model. The rfp was ahead of its time when it was developed. The glass panel plane developers have surged ahead now, but I do beleive there is still a good market for steam gauge planes. After reading through other sim forums, it appears that even the 744 and LevelD 767 are not often flown properly."

Yes, I heard a colleaque once say that "flying modern jets is only a matter of pushing a few buttons and lay back and relax." The worst part is that he believed this indeed!!!!! If you look at the PMDG's type-rating courses, it is clear that more involved than "pushing a few buttons"!!!! Happy New Year, Wijnand ps: Tip: when flying the 747-VIP with the CIVA-INS, don't do what I did. I switched the rotary knob to "INS", (which is sufficient for the VIP's INS), but forgot to switch the selector-switches (1,2 or 3) which tell the CIVA which INS to use. I made a nice desert tour, before I realised my mistake. I landed eventually in OMDB, with only 12000 LBS fuel remaining!! "
Greetings and happy landings,

Wijnand (EHBK)
