"Hi Sorry for the delay, - bloody work getting in the way again. We are the proud owners of a brand new computer, with some good gear on it, and have reinstalled FS2004 and most of the other stuff. The old one kept crashing, and in the end would not come back from the dead. I lost most of my old downloads, which I kept on my 2nd hard drive - thinking they were safe there, - but that one failed aswell so with the new one we have a separate "Maxtor Storage" drive with about 70 gigs of space. I was advised to get the single core processor as, they are actualy faster than the dual core because, the dual cores are usualy slower, each core that is, than a single core, and the flightsim uses up 1 core for itself. A "Raptor" hard drive was installed (revs at 1000+ rpm) an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ (waiting for a 4800, - hard to get here) 2gigs RAM, Nvidia 7600GT video card. I have all the sliders at max., and the frames locked at 20, and get great smooth graphics with everything on. I have another hard drive installed aswell as the Raptor hard drive is only 80 gigs, and I can use the second one for other stuff. I have read the posts, and will keep looking to see if we can re-download the RFP 742s. Regards John"

"Personally John I can,t see a problem, with Ralphs permission of course, in Hosting the D/loads on the GC Website accessible only to GC Pilots. Mike"

"Personally John I can,t see a problem, with Ralphs permission of course, in Hosting the D/loads on the GC Website accessible only to GC Pilots. Of course they would have to show previous ownership of the 742, but that can be done through previously submitted Pireps, and the Link to the D/Loads could be held by the Admin Staff. Just a few thoughts ! Mike "

"Mike, thats a pretty good idea about using PIREPs for purchase proof. If I had to prove ownership, I would have to use PIREP's cuz I don't think I have anything else due to my computer doing the same thing a while back "

None of you made back-ups on a cd? They cost nothing. You guys should take the habit.

"Louis, you are absolutely right about that. In fact I am going to attempt to start that habit. I have always been lax about that."

I've also been lax on this issue but I lost a hard drive once and had so much problems that I now have a folder named Dowloads and make a copy once a month. If it's a big program like PDMG I copy it immediatly on a cd. Saves a lot of trouble. I will try to contact Ralph about thye files.

"Your right of course, but on my last PC I had a slave Disk, but unfortunately I can,t install it on my new one , although I managed to connect it externally and transfer the files onto the new PC,also the File is 25.6 Gigabytes, so that means a lot of CD,s plus my current My Docs is 18.5 Gig I just haven,t got round to splitting the files and storing them, will have to do it,its a lot of Data to lose ! :) Mike"

"Hi Just to check to see if anything more is happening about redownloading the RFPs. I had a look at the ones available at simpilot.com and it's all talking about Fs2002 downloads. If I have to pay for it AGAIN, I would want to be getting the latest versions with all the updates fro FS2004. I did have the second hard drive for saving downloads Louis. This survived several computer problems in the past and I was able to reinstall all my stuff, but I also got a shonky repairer before the major crash, who removed the second drive, - saying it was faulty, - and he would try to get the stuff off it, but I havn't been able to get at them since. I think the drive was OK and they just wanted me to buy a new one and obviously if I got the old one back, I would know this...... Anyway - still waiting for any developments on the RFPs. Regards John"

"Louis I saw one in one of our local computer shops (Harvey Norman), when I get a chance I'll go and see if it's still there or if they can get another. Unless something happens and we can re-downbload it again. John"
