"Good Morning, I've searched in the manuals but I didnt find anything. I am at the end of a flight, with a ""tank to engine"" fuel config ie Center tank is empty, and fuel quantity in Main Tank 1+Reserve Tank 1 equal Fuel Quantity in Main Tank 2, the same on the other side. The question is : Do I keep the fuel in the Reserve Tank ? Or Do I have to transfer the fuel from the reserve tank to the Main Tank nr 1 ? If yes, under which conditions or when do I do the transfer ? Stephane"

"Stéphane, At the start of descent, or when quantity in main tanks 1 or 4 reaches 2,300 kgs [5070 lbs] you can open the 1 & 4 reserve transfer valves and leave it open for the remainder of the flight. However landing is permissible with reserve tanks 1 & 4 full. regards, Roderick"

"If your interested Stephane, there is a great DVD of a 742 Flight from Gatwick to Miami during the course of which among other things the Flight Engineer explains the fuel management!
