"As my own responce to my last topic of ""Having a Bad Month"". For the past week I have been testing a theroy. As a result, earlier this week I flew from KORD to RKSI and deliberately took 3 days. I then flew back by way of RJAA. All flights were error free. Today I tried for the 6th time, to complete last months open board flight from EHAM to KJFK. The flight was a success. What did I do differently? Its what I did NOT do: Once FSFK was started, and FDC was connected I did not task switch at all durring the flights. No ALT-TAB to check on other programs. I can see FSFK from the ACARS device, and FDC will work fine, as long as I don't pause long. (else runtime error 6) Question: For those of you who have had problems with FS2004, FSACARS or FSFK crashing, do you stask switch often? For those of you that do not have problems, do you ever task switch, and how much? Wondows - yeah right...."

"I task switch all the time. I have FS2004 and FSAcars, but I use FSAcars in offline mode only. I have Pause on Task Switch = No and I am not using FDC. Never had any problems."

":) david, i saw your other bad month topic, and I know how you feel, it took me a few tries to figure out on my computer, i always start with a reboot, fs, squauk box if im going on vatsim, flightkeeper, then fdc. Everything is ready to go, charts flight plans etc all printed and ready. I cannot check or do other things or surf the net on this computer , just let it fly. We have another computer here now on wireless router to check the flight on servinfo, or if i want to go online. This seems to work well , but is not 100percent error free all the time. Oh, and make sure you set windows update to Not install updates automaticly. I had a long overnight flight some time ago,, during the night it installed updates and rebooted the computer...
not nice to wake up to ed mosier 1287"

I use FS Autostart to shut down most processes before starting FS.

What I was doing on task switch, was watching my progress on the Globe Website Live ACARS map. Every 10 or 15 minutes I would switc to compare the distance between my GPS and the Map. However, I do not pause on tast switch, as FDC chokes if I'm paused too long. If I pause and go to bed for the night, FDC will have crashed in the moring. I have tried FSautostart, but did not notice a difference either in FPS or reliability. I'll be doing my bid flight for the month in a day or so, hopefully it will also go well. "

I will task switch every now and then. I used to have an issue with FSFK and PMDG 744 where my FPS would drop to less than 1 FPS. FS was completely unuseable. Michel mentioned he didn't use the online features (LiveACARS) for FSACARS so I tried that with FSFK. It worked like a charm. FSFK was more stable with PMDG. Last week I did a 13 hr flight, took me about three days and I would just pause at night of if I went somewhere. FS and FSFK were running for at least three days without issue when not connecting to LiveACARS. Justin"
