IE7 and old Web site

Post by lauderj »

"Okay another stupid user question .... I just installed IE7 and the old web site is giving me problems. When I go to the old web site, all of the various menu options are dropped down and visible and cover the top 3rd of the page. I am unable to logon using my pilot id because the drop down menus are covering the pilot ID field on the log-on page. This behavior started right after I upgraded to IE7 so I am thinking it must be a setting of some sort but not sure. Has anyone else seen this behavior? Interestingly enough, the new web site doesn't do this. Jerry Lauderbaugh Pilot 1505"

"Hi Jerry, This is a known issue but the last time it came up the beta IE7 was being used. I hoped that the release version would fix it but apparently it hasn't. IE7 should work properly w/ the new website menu system...at least it did w/ the beta version of IE7. We won't be looking at fixing the problem on the old site because our focus is on the new site. Progress continues to be made on the new site and just a couple big items left then it will just be cleaning up and minor items. Justin"

"Justin: Okay, thanks but it seems like I am out in the cold until the new web site comes on-line with all functionality. I was going to begin the planning for my Nov bid flight (EK9961 from DAC to Dubi) so I was going to use the dispatch system. However, one needs to be able to log-on to use it. I don't believe it's operational in the new site yet and even if it was, my user ID has not been created in the new site. So I am kind of stuck in between right now for using any web site functionality that requires a log-on with pilot ID. Jerry Lauderbaugh 1505"

"Jerry, Yes, the menus stay pulled down in IE7. No suprise there based on MS' track record... You can still log in, the input box is active behind the menus - you can type your pilot number - you just can't see what you are typing in... I am not sure if it is possible to switch back to IE6. Besides, IE7 supposedly has many nice features. You might want to look here at an alternative browser: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/ ;-) I think we need to expedite the move to the new site since MS is force-feeding IE7 to every computer these days via their Windows Update feature. (As you might have noticed by now, I am not much of an MS fan...) I will have a quick look at the menu system on the old site to see if there is anything we can do in the short term..."

Hold the calls to the Microsoft service department! I fixed the code so the menu now works in IE7 as well! :D
