"Hi Guys, For those interested in buying FSX or like myself already have it, below is a reply I received from PMDG in answer to my question to them re Compatability with the 400 & 400f Mike
Mike, Thank you for getting in touch with PMDG regarding FSX compatibility, and FSX based products. We have prepared the following list of existing and future PMDG product offerings in order to give you a glimpse of "where we are" with the transition to FSX. FSX represents a generational change forward for the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise and we are certain that you will be pleased by the new enhancements the simulator offers. It has taken somewhat longer than we'd have liked, but we have a few products nearing completion and release information will be made available soon. (The 747-400X, for example has been under development since May and should be the first fully compatible PMDG product released for FSX.) Please understand that pricing, release dates and specific information related to any promotional pricing that we may decide to offer has not been finalized and as such we are unable to publish the information at this time. The following information is the only information PMDG has made available at this time. : PMDG's FS2004 737 Products: (737-600/700/800/900): ================================================== - These products were developed for use with FS9. - They are incapable of running within FSX. PMDG's FS2004 747-400 Products (747-400 and 400Cargo): ====================================================== - These products were developed for use with FS9. - They are incapable of running within FSX. PMDG EXPRESS B1900C/D: ======================= - These products were developed for use with FS9. - These products can be manually installed into FSX. PMDG MD11: ========== - This product is under development. (release date TBA) - This product will be released for FSX. - This product MAY be released for FS9. (decision pending) PMDG 747-400X: ============== - This product is under development. (release date: TBA) - This product will be released ONLY for FSX. - More details about this product will be released later! - Special promo pricing for existing FS9 747 customers will be available. PMDG 737 NGX: ============= - This product is under development. (release date TBA) - This product will be released ONLY for FSX. - More details about this product will be released later! "Oh wonderful, so if we want to upgrade and still fly the 744, get ready to pony up with more dollars right? Well, thats no problem since my wife has agreed that she will go without all necessities of life to allow me to keep upgrading till I am blue in the face......... NOT! Looks like I am going to be an FS9 pilot for quite a while...."

"You're going to be Ok without FSX for a while because: 1) even if you could upgrade the PMDG fleet for free you probably use a boatload of other add-ons which still needed upgrading and the last time I looked most add-on makers are still "awaiting beta testing" or whatever, and... 2) unless you have Bill Gates' personal machine FSX will likely bring your system to its knees. I got a free copy of FSX Deluxe for going to the AVSIM convention last year and just installed it on Saturday. It's useless to me because I fly with PMDG, Level-D, FSNav, ActiveSky, SquawkBox3 and all kind of FS9-only stuff which I cannot use in FSX. Big Effing deal to get some sexy graphics. JMO."

"Well since I got FSX as a Christmas Present, I ,ve found the only thing that works so far is Active Sky , PMDG says that the B1900C will work in FSX well guess what I installed it today into FSX and there is no sign of it ! and as you say Bryan it is a bit of a rip off to start charging for extra 400,s when we have shelled out for them once. and incidentally you need more RAM if your using add-ons, 1 gig won,t cut it . "From what I understand, the 747 for FSX will have new features not currently available in FS9. So your reduced price as an existing 747 owner won't be going to pay just for what you already have but for FSX. I don't know where I saw the post so I can't prove it, but I read that the FSX team is working pretty hard on resolving some of the performance issues...there's hope
FSX runs well on my system which is at least 2 years old (Intel dual core...which isn't supposed to help FSX much...2.8 GHz, 1 GB RAM, and a PCIE 256 MB vid card). Then again I'm not real picky...as long as a slow frame rate doesn't interfere with my flare I'm happy. Places I absolutely can not fly FSX is the high detail/density airports. Paris is one such place. I got very good performance out of the missions which I highly recommend to anyone...I job very well done by the FSX team...the missions are very fun. With that said, I won't be switching to any major flying in FSX for quite a long time. I'm worried that performance of such aircraft like PMDG and RFP will bring the frame rate to even below my standards. I am perfectly happy w/ FS9 for my GC flying. Justin"

"I'm happy too, just added Ultimate Traffic and I have a little tweaking to do as it has done a tiny bit to frame rates. So I can imagine what FSX would do, and I have a 3 gig system.."

"Justin You,r right vis a vis the Large Airports ,one example is Salzburg with an Autobahn next to it,with all the traffic going up and down the Road it hits the framerates a little. The textures on FSX are great, no complaints there, not tried all the generic Aircraft but I found the Flight Controls of the King Air 350 on approach to Innsbruck on a windy day too sensitive for my liking ! "I agree, the King Air is too sensitive to make it worth while to fly, same as in FS9. I found the A320 to also be unflyable in FSX because of the pitch sensitivity. Come to think of it, almost all the default planes are too pitch sensitive. An except might be the 747, 737, and maybe CRJ. Justin"

"In FSX version of the PMDG 744, it would be nice to have a Weather Radar (WXR) and perhaps the option to have the Anti-Ice on AUTO

Ross, there is a good Weather Radar here-
http://www.reality-xp.com/products/WX5/index.htm- its about £15, but its in a seperate window ( similar to the ACARS Gauge) you can reduce it to fit in the space now occupied by the Auxiliary Artificial Horizon on the 400f Mike"
