"Hello Gentlemen, I ve noticed a few errors on our SELCAL page in the Pilot Manual. as i learned several years ago SELCAL Codes are always in alphabetical order ( ABCDEFG ....... etc ) that mean a Selcal Code like the wrong one in the Pilot manual :
N408MC : RK-SM is impossible should be KR-MS, i ve pointed out 2 other wrong Selcal
N496MC and
N516MC. The correct Selcal for these Birds are : N408MC --- RS-KM N496MC --- BC-DM N516MC --- CK-GL Here is a link to check Worldwide Aircraft Selcal Codes.
Enjoy and Happy Landings

"Silly question: how do we use SELCALs on VATSIM? sometimes, when flying over the pond I hear ding-dongs (and I am sober!) but I have no idea what they are for... Luc"

Hi Luc, Those "ding-dongs" mean the witch is dead.
But seriously, SELCAL = SELective CALling. Instead of the crew monitoring the beautiful sound of static on the HF radio ATC sends a SELCAL code which produces the "ding-dong" or "SELCAL SELCAL" (depending on aircraft, there may be other "attention getters") in your aircraft. That's your cue to monitor the static and in fact I believe you make the contact w/ ATC. That's about as much as I know about it and I'm not sure if there's much more you would need to know

"Thanks very much! so hearing a ding-dong here and there is not so dramatic... it just means ATC is knocking on the door, but do they (I mean VATSIM) need to know our specific SELCAL code to do this? I never paid too much attention to these codes and may be I am hearing ding-dongs which are not meant for me! time for a drink... Luc"
