Diversions?

How do we handle diversions? I'm in the process of diverting from KORD to KDTW for weather reasons, (and my FMC is screwed up).

What should I do after my Diversion? :?

Kevin:

Unless another admin has any other ideas.. If it's just weather, you can land, and wait until you have a better window and then proceed on to your destination. You get credit for all the hours flown regardless of the diversion. As for the FMC, if it is a fixable item, no biggy. If not, notify MX (Allen) and go from there. Allen makes all the calls on MX issues. But if it resets, or seems to clear up, then go ahead and make your flight when the WX clears.

Okay, thanks.

My FMC is buggy because the #$s hole that made the SID/STAR package for O'hare did it wrong  , so I have no arrivals, departures or runways. Looks like I need to buy the proper one from Navdata. I'll probably do the rest tomorrow (12/12) and go from there.

Kevin, let me tell you from experience, Justin has also had a taste of this.. I updated my FMS with freeware that was supposed to be tip top latest, all that.. I finally found out that alot of my major airports were useless. No approaches or departures, and NO runways. Makes things hard in the 744. I purchased Navigraph credits and updated using that, I have never seen a nicer update in all my days of doing FS.

I have everything up to date so far as I know. All my major airports that were missing are now fixed. I would suggest paying the meager price. It is far worth the money. I think it was close to $15.00 U.S.

Navigraph is even better now; their latest update even has most of the transition on the SIDS/STARS also (I know the last few and some but not all). You can really use that PMDG FMS the way it was meant to be used now. My last 4 flight in the 744F had everything in the box from start to finish!

I was getting tired of building the SID/STARs point by point in the box either before departure or on arrival and then have ATC come online and give you something totally different, now I can just hit a few keys and be done with it.

Glad Navigraph fixed their FMS data. Last time I tried to update, it really fouled up things. Luckily, I had saved my old data before updating. That was quite a while back, though. Since I just bought a fresh batch of credits, I guess it's time to try again.

You can fly without it, but it sure is a PITA entering everything manually.

When diverting, at least with GCP, you can enter in your diversion airport as your destination before you block in. Your PIREP will reflect that change and show your diversion airport as the destination. Then when you depart, continue your original flight but the departure airport of course is your diversion airport. The flight number will stay the same. If in doubt, notify your RM to make sure he knows the unusual flight(s) are due to a diversion.

That happened to me on my last flight into KORD and I use Navigraph and NDAC Payware, I knew as soon as the data was enterd in to the FMC and I got an error message about a r/wy it couldn,t find and as usually happens there is no data for that particular A/Port, now I backup the good sid/stars and cut and paste the relevant sid/star from an earlier sid/stars folder into the database.
Incidentally are the Dispatch Numbers still in operation for the 722 Cargo Loader or is that Tool now redundant ?

Mike, do you have the latest Navigraph update? I installed the latest, and I have not had a problem with ORD. Justin mentioned one time that he had to re-install the update to get it to take, so just wondered.

I think you are asking about the "GC Cargo Loader" for RFP and dispatch numbers are no longer used. That was generated by the flight planner we used to have.

Well I bought AIRAC cycle 712 yesterday, and no problems with ORD, MSP, DXB or any other airport. Works like a charm :D

Also make sure FS is not running when you install the update.

Mike, I think Justin had to re-install his once, mine did ok the first time around. I learned not to use the freeware updates though. I somehow managed to avoid ATL for several months as it wiped out all of ATL from the FMC.
