Using VHHH and VHHX Scenery

Here is a way to keep both Scenery's, found on another forum :)
Instructions for using Thomas Kwong's Hong Kong 2005 scenery together with the new 2008 9Dragons KaiTak scenery.

As the two sceneries overlap each other, it is necessary to de-activate some items from each one.

Please follow these instructions CAREFULLY. This does not involve deleting or removing any files so each one can be restored to it's original state in the future if you wish to do so.

1. Open C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\VHHH\vhhh2005b\scenery

Find these files,

Excl_bridge.bgl change to- Excl_bridge.BAK
Excl_tungchung.bgl change to- Excl_tungchung.BAK
misc_objects.bgl change to- misc_objects.BAK
tm_aprt.bgl change to- tm_aprt.BAK

It should now look like this,

2. Next, open C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\scenery

and find

VHHH_LC.bgl change to- VHHH_LC.BAK

3. Now open C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\9Dragons\scenery

And find these files,

AF2_VHHH.bgl change to- AF2_VHHH.BAK
Chek_Lap_Kok1-VTPH.bgl change to- Chek_Lap_Kok1-VTPH.BAK
Chek_Lap_Kok_LWM2.bgl change to- Chek_Lap_Kok_LWM2.BAK
Chek_Lap_Kok_OB1.bgl change to- Chek_Lap_Kok_OB1.BAK

It should now look like this

4. Finally, don't forget to reactivate your vhhh2005b AND vhhh_tk options in the Flight Simulator Scenery Library if you've deactivated them to use 9d KaiTak.

Please note:
THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIAL 9Dragons UPDATE, this is to be used AT YOUR OWN RISK.

That's it, you will now have both airports and a VERY busy Hong Kong!

I'm trying to get Honk Kong all set up and I think I might be going crazy. I'd like to run the old and new together so I can have fun on the IGS13 at VHHX. I have removed the 9Dragons scenery so that I can cleanly install the VHHH2005 first and makes sure it doesn't overwrite anything on the 9Dragons. The problem is that unless I have gone crazy (very well could be) that the installed directions do not match the above directs to get both the 9Dragons and VHHH2005 to work together.

When I go to install VHHH2005 there are two zip files that I need to exact into my FS9 folder.

"1. Unzip "airport.zip" to: Flight Simulator 9\scenery
(This is the main airport scenery. Choose Yes when prompted to overwrite)

2. Unzip "af_lc.zip" to: Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\scenery
(This is the AFCAD file and Landclass file.)"

Because of the file structure of the VHHH2005 files it seems the above posted information is incorrect; C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Addon Scenery\VHHH\vhhh2005b\scenery is actually C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\vhhh2005b\scenery if I follow the VHHH2005 install directions. This leads me to believe that the VHHH2005 scenery install directions where backwards or the above directions were slightly off and lead to the files in the incorrect location. I get the jest of the directions to get the sceneries to work together and can search for the required files I want to change so that’s not an issue. I just want to make sure that my VHHH2005 scenery is in the right location and working,

If anybody was actually able to follow and understand what I was trying to explain and offer some advice, thanks in advance!

VHHH2005b download link from Avsim , 12.7 megs. It might help some people understand if they see the files.

Hi Charles,

Yeah i got slightly confused when the 9Dragons fix w/ VHHH2005 installed told me to go to C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator 9/Addon Scenery/VHHH/vhhh2005b/scenery. You are correct, the files that it tells you to rename are in the location (well on my system anyhow) .../Flight Simulator 9/Scenery/vhhh2005b/scenery

So, just install both the sceneries as normal and then follow the fix, but with your folder locations and it should all work out ok :)

Thanks a million for this fix. I fly CX in and out of Hong Kong and needed this. Wonderful work :)
