It is finally out for FS9
Thinking of buying it, anyone recommend it? ?

I bought the FS9 version but haven't flown it yet. Just tried to figure out all the windows, switches, etc. So far I am very impressed...and intimidated. I have to deprogram myself from my Boeing mindset and learn a new way of doing things and a new language of sorts. But I am pleased with the textures, panel, and sounds so far.

Did the same thing, loaded it up, couldnt get the FMC going, but did a nice circuit

It's exactly as you would expect for a PMDG product, first rate in all area's and definitely not a Boeing. I've Been flying the FSX version since release. Unfortunate we don't have any MD-11 ops here at GC.

I would also recommend getting this bird. It's very intimidating at first but when it grows on you, you'll fly this bird more than the 744. That's the kind of impression this plane leaves on you. It's hard to walk away from it.



This plane is definitely not a Boeing. Just one example is if you look at my ND you'll notice that the MAG HDG is displayed above the Compass Rose and not the TRK HDG. In that view the TRK HDG is indicated by the green diamond on the compass rose. You can cycle back and forth between TRK and MAG HDG displays on the ND .

MAG and TRK HDG is also displayed on the PFD. The PFD will still display the MAG HDG even if you changed the ND to diaplay TRK HDG .

I could go on and on about features I like about this plane but that would take me all day to type .

Its nice, but don't get your hopes up. Unless there is a major turn around in the last decision on this, I don't think you'll be seeing it here. It just doesn't fit with the operations we model. Look at the bright side, if we were an MD-11 VA, we would be writing about the PMDG 744, wishing we had it. Don't mean to be the wet blanket, sorry.

I'll still fly it, but just not file any pireps with it .

I'm not asking to implement this aircraft into GC, just saying its a really nice bird to fly .

I know Kevin, just wanted to make sure everyone kind of knew the history on this before they bought that thinking we might be flying it. No harm at all, I think its a beauty and would probably get it too if we flew it.

ya, I won't purchase it until/if we do. In the mean time I'll just get better at the 744.

For those who own the MD-11 for FS9, could you comment on the frame rates as compared to the PMDG 744? I am concerned because I have a rather dated computer, although it runs the PMDG 744 fairly well.

I can't comment on the FS9 version but the FSX MD11 is definitely more frame rate friendly than the 744 is. I imagine the FS9 version is the same way.
