Deleting unused aircraft from FSX

Hi
Is it OK to just delete the aircraft I don't use out of FSX. I could put them in a separate hangar or something, but I want to make sure it won't mess anything else up before I do it.
I thought this would save some space on the drive??

Yes, you should be fine. The only issue may be some left over gauges that aren't used but that shouldn't cause any abnormal behavior from FS.

Thanks Justin,
That should save a lot of disc space.

I just move them to a separate folder called "Hangar" which can be on another drive or USB stick. If I want to fly them again, then I just copy the aircraft back.
Reducing the number of aircraft in FS also speeds up loading when you select an airplane.

Thanks Michel
I have done the same and it seems to work well. With my 2 hard drives I have moved them to the other drive to get them right out of the way.
It might be wishful thinking but I'm sure FSX starts faster.
The aircraft still show up on the "Select Aircraft" pages. Is there a way to get rid of them from there?
Just as a matter of interest for the folks here I have also gone to Mozzilla Firefox for my web browser and Mozilla Thunderbird for emails. They seem to be much faster than the Microsoft 'Internet Explorer' and 'Outlook Express'. They are all freebies and have heaps of additions if people want.

Hmm. It should not show up under "select aircraft" unless you still have entries in aircraft.cfg I believe. Moving the entire folders should make them go away.
Yes, FSX does seem to load faster with fewer planes.
I switched to Google Chrome as a browser.

Nah I didn't look properly, it's only the ones I left on that are showing.

Further to this one please......
I still have heaps of aircraft showing because I have the the origional FSX plus the Aerosoft Beavers, and their PBY Catalinas. They amount to 60+.
The Digital Aviation Cheyennes, - 12 of them. (Check them out, if you haven't already, they are great).
Flight 1 ATRs and Pilatus PC12s. Some Grumman Gooses (should that be Geese?), from OZX HD Team. Etc. etc.
I don't think I use any of the origional Microsoft Aircraft except the Cessna 172, just to get FSX started.
Can I remove the ones I don't use by just removing the - "texture.XXX" - files from the Airplanes\Beaver, or whatever, folders?
John.

Are you trying to remove entire aircraft or only some repaints while keeping the aircraft?

Michel
I'd like to remove the repaints that show as thumbnails in the 'Select Aircraft' lists.
I only use about 2 of the Beavers and 2 of the Catalinas. 1 of the Cheyennes, etc. etc.

Well you could remove the entries from the "aircraft.cfg" file for those aircraft. I would make a backup copy first, and then delete the [flightsim.x] sections you don't want. Or you can comment them out by inserting // in front of each line.
