Substitute 747-400 with 747-800

Here is where the coffee machine and Coke machine are kept. Please clean up after yourself and do not remove the magazines from this area. A good place to exchange thoughts with Operations personel and other pilots.

Substitute 747-400 with 747-800

Post by Kanwardeep Singh 3484 »

Hi All,
I am new to this VA and planning my first flight. I am wondering if the 748 can be sub for 744.

Thanks

In the pilot manual under Chapter 6 section 4 the following is stated:
Flight should be flown with the aircraft type assigned to the extent possible. There are
occasions that may require an aircraft type substitution. These situations should be
limited to:

a member who was assigned a flight during the monthly bid with an aircraft
type assigned for which the member does not own;

● the assigned aircraft is not capable of completing the flight segment in one leg.

Note: it is not unheard of for real world flights to require a tech stop (fuel stop.) These
flights will take more than one leg to complete a flight segment and this alone does not
create an unrealistic operation.

The sticky post above viewtopic.php?f=21&t=6553 says that you can.

As long as it's a comparable/similar airframe you can use it. For example, I have the PMDG 777 but it's not P3D v5 compatible, and I don't have a 767 or MD-11, but I can fly those routes in the 744/748. I CAN'T fly them in the 737 though as it's not in the same class as the other aircraft. The only issue for me personally is whether I have the airline livery or not? For instance, Titan doesn't fly 747s, so without the 767 or 777 I won't fly their heavy routes, but that's a personal choice. I'm sure I could sub in an Atlas 747 and it would be acceptable (Though Justin or Jamal may disagree. :))
