TRAINING COURSES

Here is where the coffee machine and Coke machine are kept. Please clean up after yourself and do not remove the magazines from this area. A good place to exchange thoughts with Operations personel and other pilots.

"Barry, How about CAT II ILS approaches? Not the mechanics of doing them, but things like MEL's, DH's, and the ""legal-ese"" of commencing a CAT II approach? EDIT by Barry - CAT II's should be covered by approach plates - remember this is Flight Planning."

"Barry, with all the over-water flights we do how about covering NAT's, Pacific routes and position reports too. Of course position reports are only required if flying online with VATSIM, IVAO, etc.. There are already guides to the above posted on VATSIM websites, maybe use a link? They helped me tremendously. EDIT by Barry - I would intend to cover trans-oceanic (e.g. NATS) in route planning. Position reporting would not really fall within Flight Planning."

"Holds. Procedure turns. Crosswind takeoff and landings. DME arcs. Expedited climbs/descents (when ATC requests) EDIT by Barry - The next courses are designed to be about Flight Planning - I do not think any of the above fall into this category, but see my post below."

The responses so far seem to be more concerned with IFR techniques rather than flight planning. If the general feeling is that techniques would be more useful than planning I can do that first. Any thoughts on this?

"<!--emo&--><!--endemo--> Barry , I think, I would prefer the planning stages right now. I am trying to go beyond fs flight planner and atc and straight gps routing that fs has, and try to figure out how to get in and out of airports and to get from here to there. I already have some idea on a lot of the items on your list, but having it explained in the context of the rfp742 would definatly be an asset to me, and also to new pilots. I think some newbies probably find these older jets more difficult to fy because there is no fmc, and you really have to pay attention to fly the 742 . The ifr techniques training would be good to add on to later. I really like the way this va is progressing, Ive checked out some others, and they dont seem as, well , as good as this one , they seem to be lacking , in my opinion. ed mosier 1287 "

"I would agree with Ed, a step by step approach starts with good planning. I really appreciate your efforts, Thank you! Luc"
