"Oy. So I'm out over the Sea Of Japan at FL340 minding my own business, when I get a wind change. A wind change that takes me from M.83 to M.91 with the overspeed warning begging for mercy. I roll the power back, only to have the wind shift again and drop me down to M.74. Annoying... I use the Real World Weather feature of FS9 when I'm not on VATSIM. This sort of thing happens pretty often. I guess it could've been worse. I could have been spending a penny at the loo and come back to a wingless fuselage hurtling toward the water. I've heard that ActiveSky smooths this type of thing out for you, and also takes care of that pesky ""Hey I see the runway, aww crap no I don't"" weather transition as you enter Class D. Is anyone using ActiveSky?"

"I use ActiveSky2004.5 and though it has some neat features, I'm not overly impressed with it. I still continue to have the sudden wind shear exactly as you describe and I just checked in my options to make sure I had wind smoothing checked before I posted here. I do have wind smoothing checked but the exact listing for it is, ""FSUIPC Wind Smoothing Control"" which leads me to believe all you need for this feature is FSUIPC. A neat feature though is the ability to load an FS flight plan and on the navlog it gives you (not generally worth using for execution of a flight) the average wind direction/velocity which works great on the RFP fuel planner. In my personal opinion, the hype of ActiveSky exceeds what it's worth...but I still use it on every flight except VATSIM <!--emo&:)--><!--endemo--> Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty good program, just not worth all the hype. Justin"

"Thanks Justin. With my system, I was worried about the frame rate with ActiveSky running anyway. I think I might buy a key for the freeware FSUIPC I have installed with Squawkbox so I can use the rest of the features it has."

"I still get that problem, it seems the RFP bird doesn't do to well with wind changes, not sure if this is realistic or not. But with Active Sky V, registered FSUIPC, and wind smoothing limiting to 2 knots a second, my airplane still slows and speeds up way too many times. Although with the wind limits I get less overspeeds and stalling but it sitll is an abrupt speed change and it is very annoying"
