Has anybody heard anything about the next version of MSFS?? The last several releases were on the two-year schedule. That time is about to pass and I don't recall hearing a word from the MS team. By now I'm usually checking the stores every few days waiting for it to pop up. I'm just excited to see what they have in store for us in the next installment of FS <!--emo&:)--><!--endemo--> Justin

I talked to a couple of Microsoft guys manning a booth at AirVenture at the beginning of August. They would not comment on release plans. I got the idea the release was some time away. They did say they were working as hard as they could to get it out. Lee

This survy started with many questions about the way you use FS and what you like and dislike about it. At this moment the survey goes on. For that purpose I had to install a small program that follows every flight. After I shut down the FS a survey page is opened in my Internet browser. At this page I report what my purpose of my flight was. The nex question is how satisfied I was. Next they ask what I liked and disliked about the flight. Since this survey is still going on I assume they are still looking which way they should go with the program. I would be suprised to see a new FS before the summer of 2006. I don't really care, because I am very happy with this version. Off cause there are things to improve, but it is great the way it is now. And I would hate it if all my addons would be useless in FS10. Best regards, Arjen "

FS9 has a lot op very dedicated add-ons, which are becoming more and more complex every day. It would be a waist to say goodbye to them only because there is a new version? Personally I would already be content if MS would improve the current version; I mean get rid of bugs which have been there since FS95. (Electrical drain eg). Maybe MS can hire Peter Dowson? <!--emo&--><!--endemo--> Bye, Wijnand"

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't complaining and I hope it didn't sound like I was. I too am a part of the survey and come to think of it I need to install the software on my new computer again. I completely understand your feelings about your add-ons for FS9. But here's how I look at it, at some point they need to make a huge leap forward rather than the ""baby steps"" they've been taking thus far. I'd rather see a huge change in FS which makes my current add-ons obsolete, at least until a patch comes out for some of them, than to continue as they have in the past. I'd still be happy with a small change, don't get me wrong but like I said at some point they need to make that big change followed by a bunch of smaller changes like what we've seen so far. The MS team is obviously very talented and I think they have a lot more things they would like to do but don't because of issues like what we discuss here. That's my personal view anyways. I would like to see vast improvements in ATC and AI handling as well as major improvements in the ability of aircraft systems modelling and malfunctions. Justin"

"The MS guys told me something interesting. Microsoft only cares about FS to the extent it sells Windows. I would like to see a major overhaul as well. Top of my list would be to port to 64 bit (or at least 32 bit) Windows. From what I understand, FS9 is still 16 bit. That would be a huge performance gain if combined with a 64 bit version of Windows. I won't hold my breath for this but I would be happy with the same functionality (plus a few bug fixes) optimized for 64 bit. The MS guys were emphatic in saying the team does care about all of the high end simmers with fancy cockpits. Although we represent a minority of users, they consider it a very important customer base. Lee "
