" For those pilots who have flown from Bishkek Airport, KYRGYZSTAN have you experienced severe turbulence on the route? My flight plan: UAFM BASAN A355 NT A113 AKB G3 FV R11 UK B102 ASKIL UL735 SUW UT727 DRE UM994 PENEK UL980 HLZ T851 PIROT UZ717 ABAMI UM170 BAM UJ158 LNO ELLX which takes me from Kyrgyzstan through Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany to Luxembourg. At flight level 340 up to 400 severe turbulence was the norm. Rain and thunderstorms was in every direction. As I was approaching Minsk the dreaded CTD occurred. During the 3 hours of flight various levels of turbulence was a factor. Firstly, is it true to life that severe turbulence occurs at flight levels above 340? Also, anyone who has flown similar routes post the route. Also, can anyone look at my route and possibly offer any suggestions. Thanks, "

"Ulysese, There usually isn't much turbulence at those FL's, but I have heard flying over mountain ranges can produce it. Are you using an external weather program, such as Active Sky? Also, rain and thunderstorms at that level are rare unless they are supercells. I would check your settings under ""User defined weather"" to see if they are set to produce storms at that altitude. I use AS6 and have not had any unusual or severe turbulence anywhere I have flown, but I haven't done your route. "

I experienced thunderstorms and severe turbulence so much that I had to descend from FL380 to FL340 because of loss of airspeed. The turbulence was wide spread even at FL400! Also, I use FS Flightkeeper (FSFK) which indicates aloft at different flight levels. FSFK indicates the level of turbulence at different flight levels. I though at FL400 above the clouds as well as mountains turbulence should be minimized. "

They could be adding to the weather and sometimes do this 'on top' of the ASv6 weather Regards John "
