My DHL Flight

"In celebration of our new services, I picked up a DHL flight. KCOS to KASE flight 0112. I have practiced this flight to re-familiarize my myself with the ATR and check out the approach. Here is the thing that I am confused about. Flight time for the flight is 0205Z, which makes it 8pm in Colorado. Looking over the charts, the approaches are not authorized for night. It is very dark in those mountains at night. Am I missing something, can I "legally" make this flight into KASE? Thanks,"

"Jeffery: In scheduling the flight, I wasn't aware of the restrictions, however this is one of the Notams listed for that airport. FOR ALL GA OPNS BTWN 30 MIN AFT SS TO 2300 THE FOLLOWING APPLIES: ACFT EQUIPPED AS RQRD UNDER FAR 91.205(D) FOR INST FLT - PILOT IS INST RATED; VFR PIC HAS COMPLETED AT LEAST ONE TKOF OR LDNG IN THE PRECEDING 12 MONTHS AT ASE. IFR: EXECUTE APCH/DEP PROCEDURES WITH ATC CLNC. I'll let Justin make a command decision on this, but Skywest Aviation regularly flies into KASE in CRJ's with arrival times of 2100 to 2230 hour spreads. Justin, your input please...."

Interesting considering when i worked the ramp at Mesaba if we didn't push the ARJ-85 going to ASE on time they had to fly to GPT and bus the pax to ASE because they couldn't land there at night. I don't know much about ASE but the restriction may be either no ops when the tower is closed at night or Skywest got some sort of exemption. However, reading that NOTAM, I don't see anything that restricts Part 121 ops to/from ASE at night."

"If all else fails, I can always re figure the times on the flights that are connected to KDEN and still make it all work. Aunt Poodie may not get her new Crochet needles on time, but she will get them next day!"

"Well, it's one heck of challenge to fly that approach at night. Trying to make sure your stay clear of the mountains and get down in time to land while making VREF. You guys are the bosses, I fly when you say too. :)"
