I came across this site I found several years ago and had saved it on a CD.
http://www.speedrecords.tk/ It's a database of aircraft types and (unofficial) groundspeed records including pictures as proof. I have a picture somewhere with a higher GS for the BE-76 Duchess than is the current record on the site. Trouble is that I have no idea where that photo is.

I sure hope these are speeds over ground (vs true or indicated airspeed) and
not speeds
on the ground!

"Im thinking surely they are ground speed as in while airborne, not even sure if they make a tire for the 747 that is rated at that speed? Sure would produce a lot of sidewall heat in a real quick time."

"Yeah, 747 tires are rated at 220 kts max. So that would have been some show if it was on the ground!
