Hey Guys

Im feeling very sorry for myself at the moment lol I just got myself 4GB RAM (Maximum the Motherboard can handle) to compliment the Core 2 Duo Processor (Again, Maximum Processor the MB can handle) and Windows Vista Ultimate (MB States "Windows Vista Ready)!

Ok, so I go to boot up the computer and only 3GB RAM is shown, I do a bit of research and apparently, this is relatively normal! Then.....disaster strikes my computer goes and gives me the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). I manage to get a glimpse of the error and it states "MEMORY_MANAGEMENT" then the computer restarts...im thinking...ok this may just be a one time only problem. Im far from wrong I could after that barely log on before Vista blue screening at me!

Realising that I have pushed my motherboard to its limits, I decided to remove one of the two 2GB RAM sticks. This still doesnt help!
After realising that I wasnt going to get any further with that installation still on my system, I decided to format my HDD and run VU on the system again! This still hasnt solved the problem (still have 2GB RAM in at this time). After trying to stop myself from throwing my computer out of the window, I decide to do one more clean format and this time install XP again! We have a glimpse of hope now!...I am currently using my computer to write this message. However, XP also occassionaly cuts out (without a BSOD now) and restarts.

So, to my friends at GCVA I ask....does anyone know whats happened to my beloved computer?

I have 3 things in mind...a Motherboard Failure, RAM Failure (even though XP is running OKish at the moment) or HDD Failure?

Any advice will be greatfully recieved

Not to be a smart A-- but.. I had an interesting conversation with a forensic computer tech. This guy probably knows more about computers than I would dare even ask him. He is one of the guys that goes into computers and digs up all the dirt when we have to convict someone on information that has been wiped out.

Anyhow... He said Vista is definitely not at its ready point for "MOST" applications. He stressed that many people do have some luck with it, he stated "flight simming" was one area that he could see alot of issues with Vista until they get it all worked out, especially if you are running lots of other stuff to enhance the experience.

His recommendation was to take Vista out and go with one of the XP programs. He also told me many of the law enforcement entities are holding fast with XP until Vista can get the bugs worked out. Some of them are even going to the trouble to buy a new system and have Vista removed to eleviate the issues.

That is for "just what its worth."

Have hope Louis. Ill be doing the same (XP re-install) after Vista decided to stop updating itself. Besides, now Ill get good ATI drivers and the same performance from FSX. Wish me luck...

It's Ross who's having problems (so do I for that matter). The funny thing, is I just bought Crysis.....made for Vista, DX10 etc... graphics are STUNNING STUNNING STUNNING..wow

Ok...small update... I am running XP ok at the moment, and I have turned off Automatic Restart in the System menu, so hopefully that will solve the restart problem.

Also, I downloaded the MemTest 86 program and run that when I started up my computer for around 2 hours and by then it had already accumilated around 32767 errors on one of my 2GB Memory Sticks...so I will be giving eBuyer a ring tomorrow

I have had some additional good advice from friends and friends of friends and they recommend getting a newer motherboard aswell, considering that I have already probably damaged mine by taking it to its Maximum/Over Maximum specification!

Forgot to add that although Crysis is hard on the system, it doesn't f....up the computer as FSX does.

Good News!

I tested my 2nd 2GB RAM Stick and that one passed the test with 0 errors So...all along, I was using a corrupt stick when I had a perfectly good one to still test

Im going to contact ebuyer today to get a replacement

You know, Ross, now that you mention that, my Parents had the EXACT same problem with thier computer when they replaced the RAM. They had to remove the old ones completely since they were corrupt or something. (their PC still sucks )
