Any one have any good video card suggestions to replace my fried 1950xtx? I though about getting the Nvidia 9800 GX2, and really don't want to go over $600.
Thanks

nVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX 768MB is a great card - now under $600. They have now moved to 1GB card!!

Yeah, I thought about getting it, but I'm gonna go with the 9800 GX2.
Total for my camera (Nikon D60) and the card total $1516.
getting them at the same time. Sweet!
FSX should run great with my new card. Yippee!!

I've just done an update and have an Nvidia GEForce 9600 GT with an AMD Athlon 6400 dual core Processor.
Runs as smooth as silk with everything on the highest settings.
Still using Windows XP and FS9 though.

Hi Peter
Because I'm still not sure which other things will or will not work with FSX.
Also, I had XP Home reinstalled by recommendation from the techies, rather than Vista, and I understand FSX is set up for Vista??
Dunno if I did the right thing, any suggestions are welcome.
John
PS. They said they could install Vista ,I think Home Premium, for about $170 (Aus)

I don't run vista. in fact i hear nothing good about it. still many bugs. in fact i believe if you ask PMDG they will advise to stay with XP.

Yup, that's what my guys said too, so I stayed with XP.
Does FSX run OK with XP or does it need Vista and the Direct X 10, or whatever it is?
If it does run well, I might try it on mine.

FSX will run great on XP. It does not have dirext x 10 but i dont believe it is really available anyway. To run FSX well you need the service packs. load the four disks and then runn your SP1 and SP2 that you get from microsoft site. get this loaded up before any add ons.
Run the sliders about 50% to start then experiment. Once you get rolling with X there is no going back. If you like what you see them you can purchase PMDG X.
Good Luck

If you google around, there's a hack to run DX10, or at least emulate it in WinXP. I haven't personally tried it, but if you're feeling adventurous, it's out there.

I saw the hack for DX10 yesterday, since I just got my computer back, after dropping $800 into it, I think I'll wait.

I agree 100%. I had FSX and FS9 installed on my pc for awhile, and I thought I'd go back and try FS9. I didn't even make it to the runway at ORD before I said "Screw this, I'm going back to FSX."
To me, its really that different.

Problem is... I have heard guys say the same thing about FSX that you said about FS9.. I'm sure its better, but so many people are having trouble getting it to run correctly. I'm not even sure I can run it on the new machine I am ordering.

I just finally gave in and stopped using FSX. I have a decent setup and if that cant get FSX to run right, to hell with it. Im currently in the reinstall phases of FS9 (surprisingly, PMDG was rather fast in sending my re-download links) and when I get some key sceneries back into FS9, Ill be back in the air.

After reading the above and some other comments on BA Virtual, I'm sticking with FS9 and XP.
