Evening,

Since i started flying for GC a couple of weeks back I have really loved every bit of it. This is by far the best structured VA ever in all aspects.

I would like to share with you all the sucessful modifications i have made to the cockpit of my PMDG 744, since i always like to have it the most realistic set up for the airline i am flying for. As some of you will know with the 74F PMDG sadly only modelled the new digital ISDF and the digital MCP panel with LCD screens. The option of having the older CRT screens the old style MCP and the 3 backup indicators like on the pax 744 is not available. The thing that bothered me was the only starting from about line number 1311 boeing replaced the old cockpit instruments with the newer ones. But since only 5Y has N418MC with the like PMDG modelled LCD screens, digital MCP and new ISDF backup all other older 744's flown by PO and 5Y do not have this cockpit in real life.

So to the good part:

I have managed to impliment the old CRT screens, old MCP and the 3 backup instruments into the cockpit of the PMDG 74F! This sucessfully while maintaining the 74F's overhead panel and all other systems!

Starting from the first 74F to about line number 1266 they have this cockpit set up. But line number 1267 was the first 74F to receive only the new digital MCP keeping the older CRT's and 3 backup instruments. And i have also sucessfully imported this config into the PMDG 74F and have been flying like this for months without any issues, and the panels work perfectly.

To sum it up:

Option 1: From the first 744 to line number 1266: CRT screens, old style MCP and 3 backup instruments. (like the PMDG 744 has)
Option 2: From line number 1267: CRT screens, DIGITAL MCP and 3 backup instruments. (Most pax operators chose to keep on receiving the older MCP)
Option 3: From approx. line number 1311 LCD screens, digital MCP and digital ISDF. (like the PMDG 74F has) (first plane to feature this was already Line number 1308 the first 744ER)

Now for those who might think this is some huge mod you need to make to your PMDG 74F file, dont worry!

I have created a short 2-3 minute step by step procedure to help you guys out. And i assure you this wont corrupt your 744 in any way

The only info i will require from Globe Cargo is if available from somebody who has some more info about PO and 5Y tell me which 74F's in the fleet have which set up as from pictures and knowledge about line numbers i cant complete the file to tell you guys which panel to use on which plane.

Must Note: When 5Y got N418MC with option 3 it also ordered some spare digital MCP's which over time when some older ones go faulty on another 74F may have been used instead. So it is not uncommon to see a pre line number 1267 flying around with Option 2 (digital MCP) since this MCP will be used if is the one in stock. At a later C check or even D check they might put back in the original older style MCP.

If you know a Aircraft on the list is flying in a different config currently please tell me and i will update it.

Once i have this list complete i will post the procedure to install the panels.

I was thinking about making a .zip and putting it on avsim but PMDG would not allow that, and so i would like to keep this exclusive to Globe Cargo.

Sadly i cannot confirm this will work with FSX since i dont use it but you can always give it a try!

Again make sure you are saving this .cfg as Panel.cfg

2. Create a new Folder Called Panel.1 and place the .cfg file you created into that folder.

3. Go to your Aircraft/PMDG 747-400 folder and take the following files and ONLY these exact files out of its Panel folder:

747400.CDU.bmp, 747400_Chrono.bmp, 747400_EICASpanel.bmp, 747400_LowerDU_Background.bmp, 747400_Main_Background_1600.bmp, 747400_Main_FO_Background.bmp, main.bmp, ps.bmp

(MAKE SURE that these files are coming from your passenger 747-400 Panel folder and not your 74F panel folder.)

Place all these files into the Panel.1 folder you created at step 2

4. 4th and final step . Take the Panel.1 folder you created and place it into your Aircraft/PMDG 747-400F folder, then open the Aircrft.cfg in the PMDG747-400F folder you are in and go to the existing livery entry of the plane you want to assign Panel config 1 to. So an exaple entry would be:

So all i did was add the 1 next to panel= and that plane will now have Config 1

So thats it for config 1 and please tell me if it does not work out for you and what your results are, but i assure you that if you follow the steps and i know that might be a little hard the first time, it will work. So take your time

Again make sure you save this file as Panel.cfg

2. create a new folder again BUT call it Panel.2 this time and again placing the newly created Panel.cfg into it.

3. take the same .bmp files you put into your previously created Panel.1 folder and paste them into the new Panel.2 folder now. (make sure you are only copying the .bmp files and not the Panel.cfg file in the folder into the new panel.2 folder)

4. Again take the new Panel.2 folder you created making sure it has the .bmp files and the Panel.cfg file in it and paste it into your Aicraft/PMDG747-400F folder like you did with Panel.1 so in the PMDG747-400F folder you should now have Panel, Panel.1 and Panel.2

And finally for the repaints you want to use Config 2 on you will simply add a number 2 next to the panel= section for that livery like you did for Config 1.

So the example entry would be this:

With the first option, I still have the LCD screens instead of the CRT's.

Same thing with option 2, LCDs instead of CRTs. The MCP is ok and the 3 backup instruments also.

Sorry about forgetting that one! But sadly the mainpanel.bmp is not what creates this texture and i am still searching for it. The frame will still be that from the LCD screen but as long as under PMDG/Options menu you have CRT selected that is what will be shown.

I will try my best to solve that one as this is only the frame itself that needs to be changed.

How about the rest? did all work out good for you?

EDIT: At the moment i am also unable to model these changes in the Virtual cockpit view and i am also working on that one.

Under PMDG options what i mean is the difference betwen the LCD software and the CRT software. For example under PLN mode the CRT software will not display a aircraft like the LCD would.

Still looking for the right file...

Yes you will continue to see the LCD screen frame, even though the actual software displayed in the screen will be that of the CRT screen if selected under PMDG/options menu. No currently this mod. will not display the changes in the Virtual Cockpit and i will need some time to figure that out.

I am 99% sure this frame is not coming from one of the .bmp files as i even temporarily deleted the related .bmp file and still the frame would show up as that of a LCD. So i believe the frame is included in the coding itself of the displays which is something i could not change.

Again, this is only the frame of the screen and not the actual software displayed in it as this is related to the settings under the PMDG menu.
