A word of warning to anyone looking at this wireless router model... I purchased this model a few days ago and have been having issues with the internet. Loading webpages would often timeout, I'd have to refresh the page, sometimes more than once before the page would load (slowly) correctly.

I did some research by going to the Linksys forums and this problem is for the most part universal on this model and only this model. The problem is with the latest firmware update. Current is 2.0.0.2_11. It's in this update that the problem is located. If you have this router ( and problem ), rollback/downgrade to firmware 2.0.0.2_08. It will open a DNS vulnerability issue ( that was fixed in build 11 ) but fix the connectivity issues. Without doing this downgrade expect to power cycle this router minimum once per day and more likely to be more often than that.

As I write this I am about 1 hour into the downgraded system and there's already a noticeable difference. Webpages load much much faster. I have to wait a day or two to see if the connectivity issues are fixed.

I had to go out boxing day to purchase a new router, and guess what I selected the WRT160N-CA. There has been instances where I will lose connection.

I'll have to closely monitor this and see what also happens with your results Justin.

Thanks for the info.

It souds like it's a good router once this problem is fixed. I've been on the downgrade for just under a day and I haven't had any problems loading pages. It's faster than the old -G router that I had.

If you need to rollback your firmware let me know, I'll upload the file here or email it to you. It's a simple process. Meanwhile, you can look at your installed firmware version by going to your router setup->Status.

Thanks for that Justin, I'll have a look in the next few days. No problems today flying MPHO-KCHS.

Ok Justin, it appears I already have the downgraded firmware = v2.0.02 build 008 Jul 27,2008. So the issue I had on losing a connection that one day will still need to be monitored by me in the near future. I went from a G to an N router and am quite pleased with the performance, yet concerned about the apparent glitches. Let's see what happens from here on in.
