VNAV question

Hello all.
I have a VNAV questions for everyone. I'm having a problem gaining ALT during my flight. I have a flight plan loaded, FD/VNAV/LNAV/AP all on, On the "Legs" page, all the speed/alt are right. for ex. i depart and reach FL090, ATC tells me to go to FL150 so i go to the ALT MCP and dial to FL150 but the plane stays at FL090. i go to the leg pg and for that waypoint i put the new ALT and excute it but the plane stays at FL090. I've read the PMDG manual and can't seem to find any help. So can anyone help me?
Thanks
Joe
p.s. when this happens and i verify everything, i press the VNAV button a few times to verify it turns green on the PFD.

Hey little joe,
If I understand you correctly when you are @ FL090 and are cleared to FL150, you set 150 in the MCP but then rather than a legs page you should go to the VNAV page and set 150 in LSK 1L. This will turn on the "execute" light and when pressed will in turn begin the climb (assuming all other switches are correct as you mentioned--vnav, lnav, etc).
Hope this helpful

All you need to do in the 744 is left click on the center of the altitude knob when you place the new altitude in the MCP. This will automatically update the FMC with your new altitude.
That works on a S/C also

Gary, Thanks for the advice. i will take a look at the VNAV page next time i'm on. now once i input into LSK 1L, if i'm understanding you correctly, the plane should climb right?
Kevin - does this work in VC or 2D?
Thanks you guys for the info.
Joe

It works in the 2d, I haven't tried it in the VC.
Update, it works in the VC also.

Joe,
As for the VNAV page setting and really for any change made to the FMC nothing will occur until you "execute" w/ the appropriate button. This is one of the great things about this FMC--you can "what if" it to death and nothing happens till you execute the change--ie. on the progress page you can change destination on LSK 6L and get an idea of distance fuel and time to this new location for on the fly planning but the a/c will not head that direction til you press the execute button. When finished playing around just clear the destination or type in the original again.
As to Kevin's quite correct technique; I find myself staying w/ CAL's systemwide procedure for all a/c
---on autopilot the FP sets new alt on MCP and both pilots verbally confirm the new alt (FL150)
---FP sets new alt on LSK 1L of VNAV and confirms w/ NFP it is correct and then presses execute
--- 1K prior to new alt, NFP calls "14 for 15" and FP verbally confirms the alt is correct
