48 hour rule.
I hate to be the one to bring this up, but it has to be said...yet again.
Management has done their best to enforce the "48 hour rule" regarding Bid Flights, many times to their own misery by taking flak from the "crew". But unfortunately, there are a few pilots out there that snatch up bids and then sit on them for a week. (You know who you are!) Technical difficulties are understood, but there are frequent times that flights sit "In Progress" for four or five days at a time. Far too frequently to be 'technical'.....
It is unacceptable for the members who comply with the rules to have to wait for a flight because they can only dedicate time on the weekend, just to have someone snatch the flight they've been looking at all week, and then not fly it. Your fellow VA members would like to fly some of those bids!
I ask all members of Globe Cargo to join me in supporting the management in enforcing the rules. If you cannot fly the flight within the 48 hour period, don't bid on it!
It keeps it fair and equitable for everyone.

I think that we've asked politely enough number of times and we need to get some more radical action. Bryan, could you please send me a list of these offenders?

I don't know if you want to go poking the bear on this one..you booked a TTN charter on December 1st with a 10 day waiver,,it is now the 15th..be careful when you start this sort of reply

That flight was reserved and at the time I stated it wouldn't be completed until after the first of the year.

Which I thought is why the flight is set to expire on 1/5/2010 - but it sounds like I may be wrong.

So, if it needs to be reset, by all means reset it but I thought I was as transparent as possible up front about how long it would take me to ferry a turboprop over 7,500 miles across the pacific. I feel like I'm the bear that just got poked.

If I may suggest, just take the flights away from those who don't fly them, and send them a 'personal message' as to why, rather than starting a session on the forum which can go downhill rapidly.
I'm sure we understand the time it takes to put these flights up for us to enjoy, but starting to repeat the same thing again and again does nothing.
I saw this sort of thing happen on another VA I belonged to, and it did not end up pretty.

PS. The 'personal message' can be fairly blunt, if they are repeat offenders, and it is considered necessary.

I agree. Talking and warning doesn't go anywhere, ever.(Hitler, Iran?) I too think that instead of talking about it on the forum the flights should just be reset and the pilot get a message stating that it was so and why. We are all friends and coworkers here and there is no need to continue beating on this horse... It's just a greasy spot at this point... The last thing I want to see is pilots fighting administrators because they said that they were singled out or that another pilot is harassing them to finish their flight etc... The end result of which potentially being the dissolution of the VA from all of the in-fighting. That would be absolutely horrible , especially after all of the work and man hours that so many have put in to get us where we are. it s not because on some other boards the VAs crashed that it will happen. i have seen some people that didnt stay ... i ve been with some VAs too, created three and im still here without other in sights because here the crew is perfect (on my mind)
if the same cause problems i think the radical way is after two warnings they cannot bid for any other charter flights.
this is not very complicated to report any problems after bidding (i made this report too ... ) but as usual communications is the word as in a cockpit environment CRM ... and there is no stressful environment here ...
but i think that we need all be responsible and the policies are not hard to follow.
the admins and regional managers and chief pilots work hard for our fun and i dont think we need to increase theyr jobs just because ...

I must admit I,ve been guilty myself, but I think one warning and then a ban from Charters for a Month should do the Trick !

(Just to clarify, I wasn't pointing out Nate. I totally understand your situation, and keeping in contact with Bryan is EXACTLY what you are suposed to do!)

My observation is that this infringment is being commited by new members, not the vets. That means that we've either got new members who don't know the rules, or are complicit in breaking them. I'm guilty too. I've grabbed a flight or two and then forgot what i had committed to.
We've got a great group of Gentlemen here. All I ask is that members abide by the rules, are thoughtful of their fellow flight sim enthusiasts, and help management in their task.

Ralf, I wished I had caught this before I ran my resetting today. I have only one guy who has a waiver. It's that long haul ATR flight. I'm not too concerned on that one as he has contacted me several times along the way, plus we have several ATR flights on station already which this one flight happens to be a ferry flight. He is supposed to be wrapping it up here in a day or so I believe anyway. From now on, I'll make a list (and check it twice ) but this one will be for who's naughty not nice... And I'll get that to you Ralph. Sorry for the delay in seeing this, Justin and I were doing some online test flights yesterday.
I do see a trend leaning towards almost a majority opinion that banning for a month might be the answer.
Just for those reading this, that would mean banning from Titan and Atlas. I'd hate that if it was me.
Edited here: Just another note, banning this conversation from the forum would be counter productive. We aren't in the habit of banning or locking topics here as many other places do. Justin has instilled an atmosphere of almost free speech to an extent with boundaries of course, but this is were the other pilots that "DO" it right can say "Hey, get off your butt and fly that flight" and it does help us.
My appreciation to those of you that have taken this subject and assisted in supporting it.
