Hello everyone, my name is Steve (pilot #2397). Just wanted to say I'm glad to be on board and hope to be here for a while. This isn't my first post, I did have some issues with GCP 2.3.3, but with a little help, got them resolved. A little about me, I'm 26 years old, currently stationed at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska as a Staff Seargeant (E-5) Active Duty USAF. Anyone familiar with USAF aircraft maintenance jobs may recognize what a "weapons" troop is (2W1s for the newer generation, 462's for the older fellas). My jet is the F-22A Raptor, woo aahh...it's not what you think, although it is pretty amazing where it counts. Ok, enough about my job. This will be the first VA that I actually will take part in due mainly to the fact that Global Cargo's PIREP system is actually working and linked up to my PC and FSX, versus "other" VAs who mainly operate FS9. Come on guys, it's been over four years now....time to step up. To each his own I guess. Anyways, glad to be here and glad to be behind the wheel of a bird I actually enjoy flying (and am allowed to right off the bat, lol). I love the prerequisite testing as well, it really makes it feel realistic, although, I won't lie....Google really helped out on a few questions...
But, after tinkering with MSFS since 1995, I'm surprised at how much I actually knew!! Ok, well, I'm glad to be here amongst people who share the same hobby, it doesn't really make great work conversation in the real world. I do want to say that I probably won't be doing the whole Teamspeak thing. I just feel weird with the whole headset thing, even on XBox, so don't count on me doing any of that. With that being said, VATSIM will be a little much with the typing, so that's probably out as well. I do frequent forums alot, however. Regardless, glad to be here.

Those jets are curtousey of my best friend from high school, who buys jets for the Air Force. He's currently on the F-22 project and can probably tell you exactly how much each of the parts on that thing cost lol

Hey wait! I'm one of those FS9 guys you're talking about.
Welcome Steve, and let me know how that "Northern Edge" thing is working out for y'all. I participated twice, 2006 at Elmendorf, and 2007 aboard the USS Nimitz.

It's not the jet that is a PITA, its the test equipment...but legally I can't talk about it much more than that. You know the military, they're really overdoing it with this plane
. Let em have their fun. As far as my job goes, the hardest part is firing the APU, hearing it crap out and waiting on crew chiefs to figure out why it's not working...
I guess every bird has it's quirks. It is easier to work than the Strike Eagle, I will say that much. I think the F-15E scares the crap out of the bad guys a little bit more than the Raptor. She is an intimidating beast for sure, but the Raptor does have many unfair advantages haha. Good thing they're both on our side!!

I mean no offense at all, as I have thought several times about reverting back to FS9, it just ran so much smoother. I am a major graphics junky and base alot of PC software on how shiny things look, lol. Like an idiot though, I tossed out my copy of FS9 about 2 years ago when I built my current PC (specifically for FSX at the time). I spent nearly $2k building this machine and you can pick up a similar PC at the stores today for about $600. Blah!! Guess it will be time to upgrade soon. I can get 30+ FPS at FL380 in the PMDG B744F, but when I am taxiing to my slot at say KIAH (with FEX textures loaded of course) frames hit around 7-10. It's manageable, but one of those i7 processors look like it would be right at home on my mobo (if the socket is right) and maybe a couple more sticks of RAM
.
Here is how Alaska has gone for me so far...I got here August of last year and was thrown into the 19th AMU with the F-15Cs, I worked dayshift for a year and didn't do much other than launch out jets for daily sorties. Since the F-15C has seen better (and younger) days, Uncle Sam has decided it's time to move on and send those bad boys down to the Oregon Guard. Slowly as we shut things down in the 19th, we started to trickle over to the new F-22 squadrons. I have been in the 525 Bulldogs for about three months as an Armament Load Crew Team Chief (the guys that load bombs and missiles on the jets) and so far, I'm liking this particular position better than any other I've been in since I joined up. Unfortunately, (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) I haven't been part of any exercise up here yet, but they're coming. I can feel it, lol. It's funny, I've been in for 5 years, and I've been to Bagram AB, Afghanistan once, never been on a TDY, and only went through one exercise my entire career. Oh yeah, and an awesome deployment that is coming soon, but can't talk about it. Hint: Pacific Rim, tropical scenery, schoolgirl outfits, "happy-ending" massages
That's all I can say.

Wow Steve, what a job.
Welcome and enjoy.
By the way, are you related to Jim Bergeron? Heis one of the FOs (a real one) on the Polar Air DVD. The flight he is on is from Seoul to Tokyo with Capt. John Brannan. The DVD is worth a look if you havn't sen it.

I don't know if I am or not to be honest, lol, I'm sure all us Bergerons are related in some way or anoher. It's not a very common name.
