Flight times on schedule

Hi,

I noticed, that in Pilot Manual, there is mentioned, that we may opperate the flight at any time regardless original time schedule, but we should instead set FS time to this time. Is it really mandatory? I like to fly with real world time, and the original time schedule doesn't suit to me everytime...

That's correct......fly the route whenever you want, but FS time should be set to when the flight was to actually take place. Uh, yeah, pretty sure that's mandatory.

Yes, I believe it is mandatory. Not to mention FS time is what is recorded by GCVA PIREP.

I know, it is written in the Pilot Manual. But is there any +/- tolerance in these times? And what about VATSIM flyers? They also shift FS time? I thought that it's mandatory to use real world time when flying online...

Nope, not mandatory at all! It does get "interesting" though when you have to report expected time over during oceanic flights.

Just set FS time to the time on the Schedule and the Vatsim Time to the actual Zulu time your flying, know its a bit strange when your Landing in the Dark and its Mid morning at the controlled airport , but it all adds to the fun and adventure no? and you aint going to kill anyone are you?

Yes, it is very strange when FS time is set to midnight, but in the real life there is sunny day - then I wouldn't know whether I should say "Good evening" or "Good afternoon" :D

In that case, I would really appreciate if I could use real time - it's no big deal, isn't it?

hi marek ,

when i am on vatsim i always set FS time to the realworld time(ie zulu) especially if i am crossing the atlantic, others here tend to disagree on this but i find it easier and at least you know whether to say afternoon or evening
fair enough if you are flying offline i suppose as you dont have to talk to ATC

@mike just wondering whats the difference between FStime and vatsim time? i know where to set FS time obviously but am not sure what you mean by setting vatsim time, sorry for being thick but where do i set the vatsim time??

So don't say either

Considering none of your reported flight times will correspond to anything on GCVA, and it is in the Pilot Manual (i.e. policy) that you set FS time to the time of the flight, I'd suffice to say you may have to. Most of the flights I have flown, as cargo flights in general, will go through both day and night on their flight.

@Terry - I think he is referring to the time when you file your flight plan on VATSIM, you can set the ETD and ETA (which are supposed to be in real UTC times). Otherwise, it doesn't make any difference what your FS time is set to; other than the purpose of FS time matching your scheduled GCVA flight time for PIREP recording purposes.

It is mandatory ecen when flying on Vatsim to set the time on FS equalt to the time of the scheduled flight (even though I would not mind flying in real time) since those are the rules in the PM. Flights not done that way could be deleted.

Well maybe its time someone in managment reviewed this rule and at the very least made it optional for pilots flying on vatsim.

why is it being pushed so hard to fly as per the schedule time but yet we are allowed to pause for hours, makes no sense!!
at the end of the day does it really matter what time FS is set to? more likely to worry about how the flight was conducted not whether it was bang on the schedule or not

another thing is we are supposed to use our pilot nos whilst on vatsim but that doesnt get followed very well either i notice are flights like that gonna be deleted too? ,but again not as important as having the time set to zulu time as all aircraft operate almost

its just another obstacle for pilots who maybe thinking of flying online but then realise that they may get posreps with ATC over any of the oceanic crossings and then just do it offline instead.
not to mention the hassle of having to convert the time repeatedly, not very realistic i dont think.

and if hours do start getting deleted for this then looks i will be back into single figures for hours

Regards Terry

Could have put it better , obviously its the actual Zulu Time of Day when you are doing the Flight but FS is set to the Virtual Flight Time , comprende ? :D

I totally agree. It is just unreasonable rule, that could be annoying for online flyers, or pilots who enjoy flying in real world time. What is even more absurd, that long pauses or even time acceleration is perfectly OK.

I agree too with the pauses and time accelerations. Totally un realistic. I never flew a flight with time acceleration and pauses.

About the flight time I still don't see the problem. Real time is in the right corner of your screen unless you fly in full screen mode. A little mathematics is not that hard I guess. It makes you work for your flight, something you B742 pilots like anyway
