MS Flight Available for Download!

Here is where the coffee machine and Coke machine are kept. Please clean up after yourself and do not remove the magazines from this area. A good place to exchange thoughts with Operations personel and other pilots.

There are a few things I would LIKE to say about MS Flight, but out of respect for those folks who find it useful I will simply say, "IMO it's a nice, FREE, flight game". It is not a sim... but we all knew that already.

So, here's what I think we should do...

We start a campaign to collect $80.00 (US) from every simmer out there. We then hire our own team of developers to create the BEST flight simulator EVERRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! LOL! Do you think that idea will fly... no pun intended! LOL!

EDIT:

Just to show everyone that the definition of a " flight simulator" (or flight sim for short) can mean different things to different people, I found this, using google, as one definition...

Flight Simulator,

device providing a controlled environment in which a flight trainee can experience conditions approximating those of actual flight. A simulator generally consists of an enclosure housing a working replica of the interior of the cockpit of an aircraft. This replica has all the usual instruments and is mounted in such a way that it can be moved to simulate the rolling, pitching, and yawing motions of an aircraft. The instrument readings, the student's control inputs, the position of the simulator, information about the characteristics of the aircraft being simulated, and information about the terrain over which it is supposed to be flying are coordinated by a computer so that the student experiences everything but the accelerations of actual flight. In early simulators, all visual information was provided by the instruments. Thus the student received practice in flying blind. The recent use of sophisticated computers has made it possible to provide realistic video displays of conditions outside the cockpit.

I played with it a couple hours with it last night and I have an initial impression.

It's a combination simulator and game. I say simulator because everything about the airplane and the world outside is like a simulator. It's a game because it seems to be based around missions and mission-like activities. If you are a fan of missions in FSX then you will really enjoy Flight. I am one of those and I will get a lot of enjoyment out of Flight in that respect. I have doubts that it will ever be an airliner simulator based on the lack of key commands available (I take it as the abilities not programmed into the sim but they could possibly be implemented some other way.)

Performance is unreal. I was flying around Hilo in the Stearman and just a couple notes without giving much away: every little cable, strut, other part of the airplane casts shadows on itself, every house was modelled (generically of course), lots of trees, and the sim was still smooth as glass. I'm running an AMD 6 core 3.2Ghz, 16GB memory, standard type 1 TB HD, and an ATI graphics card with I think 4 GB. A comparable scenario in FSX would render the sim with a much lower frame rate, noticeably lower.

AVSIM review of Flight.

http://www.avsim.com/pages/0212/Microsoft/Flight.html

The following is my response after reading this review...

Like most of you, I was disappointed (angry actually) that MS had not continued with the next version of "Flight Simulator". I felt BETRADE to be honest... hurt to the core. When this "thing" called Flight was announced, I felt like barfing. How dare MS add insult to injury I thought? The dirty !*&$#%^#! Well, I've downloaded the "thing" and my first impression was, “it’s nothing' but a piece of #$&* game for kids! Then, I read this review…

As I read, my feelings of disappointment and anger slowly turned to feelings of hope and optimism. Why? Because deep down inside, I want to believe that FSX won’t be the last version of FS I ever own.

So, I made a decision. I have decided to “support Flight”. I bought the Maule, and the rest of Hawaii. From now on, the “glass is going to be half full… not half empty”. Only time will tell if I made a mistake.

Would anyone like to join me for a “coin hunt”! LOL!

Later guys!
