Can't Fly Assigned Flight Aircraft

Hi guys, quick question for management. I inadvertently missed my bid last month and thus was assigned a flight (GTI592). The flight in question is flying the 767 (N650GT), however I do not own and have never flown this aircraft, I have only ever flown the PMDG 747. I am aware that the flight cannot be changed, thus can I fly the flight using the 747 but record it as the 767 in the GCP or will GCP not allow it...how do I get around / resolve the issue?

Regards

I would just fly it in the 744 and put in the remarks section of the Pirep the reason why and just fly it as normal.

Or just pick up a flight from the open board section and fly that one instead. No problem if you don't fly the assigned flight.

Thanks for the reply guys, I checked that the assigned route airports can take the 744F, which they can so I think I will do the assigned flight and throw in another open board flight to be sure.

This brings up an interesting conundrum I have too. I do have the LDS but it is so dated I rarely if ever fly it, in fact only when assigned. Unfortunately, the same almost holds true for me when it comes to the PMDG 744 as well. Being a long time 2D panel user, all was fine until to B77 came out forcing me to get accustomed to using the VC which is what I use exclusively now. When I load up the VC in the 74, it is just not good, particularly at night, certain switches or buttons don't work, etc. in the VC. The B73, B77 and DH8 have forever scarred me as far as what to expect from a VC. The good news is I for one am very much looking forward to the 744v2 but until it becomes a reality, these are uncomfortable times. I opt for the auto assign function every month since I've pretty much been everywhere and can never decide on what I would like to bid on. So along the same lines, is it officially acceptable to do an airframe substitution for an assigned route as in using a 77 as opposed to a 74? I suspect not but am just throwing it out there. Is it technically possible to request auto assigned routes only be on certain airframes or should I just take myself out of the bidding process altogether and just manually reserve a Titan flight monthly until v2 of the 744 is with us?

Hi Jay,

I agree with you there on current 747 it's not good even I do struggle. Your point on Aircraft Substitution I'm not sure,However the 777's used by Aerologic actually are leased or something along those lines from Atlas as this was told to me by Volker.

I'd say you'd need to wait for Justin/Volker to read this is I'm not sure I can make that decision.

Hi guys, I thought that auto-assigned flights would correspond to the aircraft type or types each of us selected when we joined. I for the most part select my flights as this allows me to fly routes I am familiar with. I found on the few occasions I was auto-assigned a flight, it took a good few hours to prepare beforehand and was a bit of a headache trying to make flight routes, SIDs & STARS match up with my dated FS9, FMC databases and charts...I thus resorted on occasion to editing and creating my own navaids, SIDs and STARs within the FS9 and Navigraph databases, even having to remove that building that the 747 would collide with between taxiway D and runway 33R at Incheon. I thus try to avoid auto-assigned flights as much as possible, hence when I got a different aircraft to fly I needed to address it.

I would say if you have any constraints whatsoever then you need to bid on a flight that suits, flying any aircraft you like on assigned routes isn't the point of a virtual airline and it won't always be possible to do so for the likes of the 747 as the airport might not be capable of accepting it. It might be an idea however to have a menu within your profile that allows you to select desired aircraft. If possible the auto-bid process would narrow down assigned flights to only these aircraft. Not sure if it's possible or how much work would be involved (bidding on a flight is the obvious easy solution) but it would help on those occasions we miss the bid.
