"Fellow 747 captains, This weekend I went out of my head to create a comprehensive guide to step climbing in different parts of the world, based on data from the 747-2PW AOM that I borrowed. The step climbing points are derived from the altitudes at which your plane covers the most distance per 1000lb of fuel burned at a certain weight at M0.85, thus also comprising true airspeed vs. mach data. This is it, version 1.0:
Currently RVSM is in place in Europe, the Middle East, Australia and on the Oceanic FIRs most used by PAC. According to the FAA, the ICAO system is due to be replaced by RVSM in North- and South American FIRs by 01/05. <a href='

http://www.faa.gov/ats/ato/status_ww.htm</a> Remember that over Russia and China you HAVE TO USE THE METRIC CONVERTED FLIGHTLEVELS as our whale doesn't have a metric altimeter. <!--emo&;)-->
<!--endemo--> Admins: feel free to add this to the ""Route Info"" section on the main page for others to use. <!--emo&^_^-->
