"Hi everyone, I just did a flight from EHAM to ESGG; (leg 1 PO609) and I usually use IFR flights for realism. However, this flight something went wrong: ATC directed me to a south heading. The heading should be generally North, mainly because Sweden lies nort of Holland. Somehow the ATC did not understand this. Maybe this virtual guy was bad a geography at school. He kept me going on a south course, and after I was requested to contact Paris centre????? I changed the heading myself; only to be corrected by ATC: I had to stay on a southward heading (maybe he had enough of the snow an wanted some sun????). Anyway, the only solution I saw was to ask for a new IFR destination (ESGG) and this time it worked; ATC vectored me on the course in according with the flightplan. Since this is the first time I experienced this behaviour; does anyone of you fellow pilots had similiar experiences?? The total flighttime was doubled (normally about one hour; now is was around two hours) an I made a safe landing with onlu a few thousands of fuel in the tanks!!!! Greetings, Wijnand "

"I filed a flight plan Eastbound (Believe it was ATL/HAM) and ATC routed me through Anchorage, AK? I had to shut down and restart. I believe I requested High Altitude Airways and had to switch to GPS if I'm not mistaken."

"I never use the FS flight planner - it's pure crap ... and quite usual to route a flight from Europe to US or vice versa via Alaska <!--emo&--><!--endemo--> FS Build is definitely worth the money Same for FS ATC ... I got totally sick of getting vectored on weird routes around an airport, or 30nm behind an airport just to turn 180deg and fly all the way back to intercept ILS. I since quite a long time fly the rw SIDs and STARs and give me the clearances myself <!--emo&:P--><!--endemo-->"

I have 2.2 now, and I use it for all my flightplanning. After the bidding has been completed, the first thing I do is make a batch of flightplans with FSbuild for all my assigned legs. The only reason I use FSplanner, is to import flightplans (created by FSbuild) in order to have IFR flights. I tried long ago, to create a flightplan EHAM-KJFK in FS planner. It took me via Italy?????? The same error occured in fs20000, fs2002, fs9!!!! Greetings and happy landings, Wijnand "

I have FSBuild & FSNavigator. I create the flight plans in FSBuild and then load them into FSNavigator when I am all set up and Ready for Pushabck. Sounds a bit strange to do this but FSNavigator is really excellent when you have to make late changes to the flight plan. (Wind direction requires a different runway as you start your descent for example). But FSBuild gives a much better printed flight plan (for entering into the INS) and seems to generate better routes. The FS9 ATC is just a pain where the sun doesn't shine - two main gripes are the continuous frequency changes when they are unecessary and wouldn't happen in real life and the MASSIVE course deviations to bring you onto approach - 30 miles is common but I have been vectored up to 50 miles away. It also vectors you onto the ILS much too close to the threshold - often at 1500 or 2000 feet, I much prefer to set up an intercept at the far end of the ILS at 20 miles or so (depending on the STAR I am on). It also seems to ignore SIDS and expects you to climb on the runway heading to 10,000 feet or so - a bit unrealistic. My 2 cents worth."

"I would heartily endorse and suggest Radar Contact ... the best $$$ I have ever spent for a non aircraft addon ... and also FDC and also AS4 ... I always fly with those three and FSNav for the moving map. If you want a great ATC experience it's the way to go ... between RC and FDC ... there is lots of chatter to keep you awake on those long legs ... you can fly your own sids and stars if you so desire ... or be vectored if you want. A great immersive experience I think. Cheers, Paul Benoit 1159 KSAN RFP Development Team"

"Merci Paul pour ce bon tip! I am another pilot frustrated by FS ATC and this Radar contact seems very attractive. Which version are you using? is version 4 available? can it be downloaded? Bons vols, Luc"

"Well, in the name of honesty, I have to disagree slightly about the greatness of radar contact. I thought it would be cool and bought it some 6 months ago, and I have had it hang totally on me for three times now when it was supposed to give me vectors to final. It starts the vectoring ok, but after a turn or two, I hear no more ATC commands. ATC totally dies. This is something that has never happened to me with FS atc, so I have returned to the default ATC. Also, I like the voice quality more with the default ATC. Radar control voices sound too artificial/robotic to me. But this is just my opinion... Petri"

Another weird one with FSBuild. I exported my CYQX/EGLL flight plan from FSBuild into FS9 and the routing STILL went to Alaska and then on to EGLL. Went from 2000+ miles to 6000+ miles. Seems GPS is still the way to go. Totally confused. I also have Radar Contact and am not sure that's the solution either.

"FSBuild has problems with some airways. Some few waypoints exist which have counterparts elsewhere in the world. If FSBuild encounters that other waypoint first when searching its waypoint database (the airway database lists waypoint names, not indices into the waypoint database for some reason) it enters the wrong one into the flightplan. Only way to avoid that is to manually edit the flightplan, remove the bad waypoint(s), and insert another waypoint which is NOT on the same airway in its stead."
