Hi thought i would just post a few pics of my first flight for globe using the RFP747-200F,KCVG/KLAX there was no atc on route until LAX CTR who helped a lot by giving fairly simple it thought so anyway vectors but i still managed to follow the SEAVU2 arrival and got the visual app for 25L,so many thanks to LAX CTR (Markian Olesijuk) for all his help and cant wait for the next one,
far more addictive and satisfying to fly than the PMDG747-400 especially once you manage to land at KLAX or anywhere else busy sorry guys just is
more preperation needed for next time too
enjoy the pics
see you all up there
regards terry

Re: First RFP747-200 Flight for Globecargo
thanks for replies guys,
mike maybe we could organise a flight over xmas or sooner with the RFP742 if you were up for it,not sure how many pilots at this va actually fly her anymore?
we havnt really had a group flight or flyin since about a year ago now i think,
i have flown at a few vatsim events lately but have never seen any other globe pilots there ever
and john im sure you didnt really have to ask did you??
alright i could say that i did switch them on but had to raise a MEL report or whatever you call it with maintenance as they dont seem to be working but the truth is i FORGOT with everything else that was going on at the time landing lights are very very low on the things toi do list
to be honest as well i am not that impressed with the way FS9 reproduces landing light reflections any way,its like someone has spilt white paint all over the ground looking out the cockpit window..
but all that matters to me right now is i managed to get her to her destination safe and sound without any problems and didnt cause ATC any headaches in the process
anyone else be up for a flight in the RFP747-200??
seen as it was the aircraft this VA was built around originally if i am not mistaken...
hoping to fly my bid flight tonight online from KDOV/KJFK its only a short one but i think that is going to be even more challenging
hopefully will get time to take a few screenies and make it in one piece
regards terry

Hahaha, I had to give you a hard time about it Terry. I also couldn't agree more with what the landing lights do to the ground details. The lights in FSX are also so bright that they bleach out the taxiing lines and everything else
Re: First RFP747-200 Flight for Globecargo
Nice to see some pics of the old lady.
A bad lightning on the runway is no excuse to forget the checklist and put at least some lights on
But in all honesty i've switched some lights off too, to find the taxiway
There are some packages on avsim i believe to fix this problem but which to advice? Anyone....

Re: First RFP747-200 Flight for Globecargo
thanks marko,
i think i am still officially a trainee on the old bird,so i should get away with forgetting the lights this time it was a clear sky on the KLAX ATIS KILO at least i managed to have that aboard.
i do remember that the runway lighting using FSX was much better when i upgraded from FS9 before.was forced back to FS9 when one stick of RAM died and decided to try the old lady out and to be honest i am enjoying every minute of flying her and am in no rush to go back to FSX right now
does anyone know if on vatsim can you tell if other aircraft have there landing light on or not i dont know?
have also decided to make my own checklist for this old girl that includes the coffee/tea so am in the middle of that at the moment
also had trouble getting the autopilot nav switch to turn to land,i had green NAV/GS lights, was above 1500ft,and then tried it below 1500ft,both course sel set to ils freq although not in the pics above so that explains why it never worked on this landing but still havnt managed to get it to work even trying it offline and slewing it back to set up nicely i cant get any response from the LAND switch, touch one autopilot sw and the other jumps off so always land in ILS mode
im quite happy to land this way but was wondering if thats how it was done in the realworld or what?
i have also heard that RFP doesnt simulate autoland very well and tends to flare early and stall just above the runway if you get it to work at all that is
