This is really the last of them. Great approaches - challenging and scenic. Enjoy. Fly.

Winds 264 @ 27knots, landing rwy 19. I'll say  2 go-arounds.

Doh, I forgot to look at your wind vector on the EHSI on that 2d screenshot

Pretty close to the maximum:

Wind limits

Max headwind autoland 25 kts
Max tailwind autoland 10 kts
Max crosswind autoland 25 kts
Max crosswind autoland 1 eng out 5 kts
Max crosswd. T/O, manual landing 30 kts
(from Qantas)

You did a pretty good job there. And great shots. :)

Thank you very much. You must know that my first attempt to land I disconnected the AP at 1000ft = 1st go around, then I tried again disconnecting AP at 500ft = 2nd go around. I couldn't line up with the runway. On the 3rd attempt I was successful disconnecting at 200 ft and even that was hairy. I was looking at my alternate + 227nm, considering that until realizing what time it was (leave for work) So the 3rd was a charm.

By the way, how did you get the wing view??? I've been looking for one for a long time.

Louis, in FSX just cycle the views by pressing S, then A for the different angles. Hope this helps and that you were talking about FSX.

In strong crosswind conditions such as that, it's much easier to put the EHSI in MAP mode so when you crab into the wind you can crosscheck the TRK HDG with the runway symbol and runway heading to stay in line with the RW. Then use the rudder and ailerons to straighten the aircraft during the flare. You can follow the LOC and G/P deviation scales on the EADI to ensure you're on the correct path.
BTW this is one of the reasons why ILS approaches have a published CDAP.

Fantastic shots though

I haven't become comfortable with that procedure quite yet. I chose not to this approach for obvious reasons. Next flight thou........

Thanks 8)

You think the close calls and the route offsets we flew on that group flight might have had something to do with it? :D
