Hello everyone,

I'm Liam, 2131, just joined yesterday and got my first flight and initial exam out of the way so I can now relax and enjoy my layover in PANC.

I am very happy to be here and quite excited. I have been simming for a while but have grown bored of the usual and was desperate for a change and stumbled upon Globe Cargo. The choice of flights is great, and I am looking forward to visiting new places albeit virtually.

Anyhow, I took a few pics and thought I would say hi and share,

Nice sunrise shot

Heading NW towards PANC in a constant twilight almost. Never been up here before

Downwind, well on the downwind leg of the RNav arrival for 7R

My 1st landing had to be a fully manual approach :D

I flew this leg on Vatsim but there was no other traffic. I might do the next leg with my AI PANC was very lonely.

Anyway, hello all, looking forward to getting to know you all.

Great shots Liam.

I don't know what the official requirements are, but I would suggest putting the gear down a bit earlier. I haven't been on the flight deck of a large aircraft for some years, but there was a requirement to have the gear down before turning onto final at about 9 miles and 3000 ft. Or before the glideslope aquisition, if it was a long straight in approach.

Nowadays there is more emphasis on fuel savings so it could be left till later.

I remember the Captain John Brannan on the Polar DVD complaining about having to put the gear down early on a specific approach into Narita because some ice had fallen out of the gear bay once before and had hurt or killed someone on the ground.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I can't honestly remember when I dropped the gear on this flight but was most likely one notch below the GS capture which is what I normally do. Is that incorrect?

Welcome aboard Liam..hope to see you on our Vatsim flights :) As far as gear, I put my gear down when I put the flaps at 20 degrees...seems to have seen that in PMDG's manual; but not sure. Anyway, as long as the gear is down before reaching the runway.

I've always put mine down when the glide slope starts to move, but that's probably just me.

That's the way some RW SOPs say ;)
