ELLX/FNLU (50000ft over AFRICA)

ok so after sorting out my gear dowm problems being caused by the yoke i decided to visit FNLU for the LUANDA LIVE,and the flight went well no gear down when i never comanded it nothing,until i got over africa somewhere and deciced to check the wx on ASE only to see the first 3 screenshots show the reports and the rest show how the aircraft reacted to them very interesting,eventually i turned ASE off all together as it was getting ridiclious,heres the pics ,check the altitude selected and the actual altitude being flown,also i wnder as ATC went offline by the time i got there what would they have reported the QNH as??
because when i typed .metar fnlu into SB3 it gave me qnh of 10006mb which works out at 96.58inches or something stupid,even got negative altitude readings while still over 30000ft,luckily i had read about being caused by un reiable weather stations that are updating ASE,livened up an otherwise boring flight

Doing the flight to Houston as we speak - weight it critical for the flight!

hi mike what WX engine do you fly with?
and are you doing it online or offline?
what was cthe QNH at FNLU when you departed?

All I can say is...that was naaasty! What the heck was going on there? If I had any hair left before that ride, it surely would be gone by now!!

ASA or default with updates every 15 mins
Does a B742F have the range?
It is right on the limit for B744 - not even a B744F would make it
Let alone a classic

all it was jay was the local qnh readings from weather station in the area were giving readig of 10006mb,thats ten times normal pressure,so when ASE applied this reading to the weather it caused mayhem and it confused the S*** out of my autopilot and even though i comanded FL360 the altittude kept dropping down to 12000ft in a matter of 20-30secs,then when i decided to turn of the WX i ended up at 52000ft and stalled,but once i dropped back to 40000ft she bagan to handle again ad i was able to hand fly her until under control before turning on the autopilot again ,
i decided it best to leave ASE off until i had landed as i had just flown over 9hrs and xacars the pirep program cargolux use doesnt forgive you if you crash and burn
its supposedly quite commom in the far eastern asia region i think for this rogue weather readings from outback weather stations,either that or someone is taking the piss by adding another zero to the QNH just for a laugh.

Terry,
Thanks for the explanation. So ASE has been implicated in several unusual events that I've read about. For me, AS6 has given me some troublesome rides from Hong Kong to Australia a couple of times, generating great huge thunderstorms that generate prodigous windshear events that have dropped the 744F down to very low altitudes. Also, flying from the Middle East to Asia at times there have been extremely high temperatures at altitude that have also forced my flights down to less than ideal altitudes. One time I came back from a quick break to find the temperature had climbed to such a degree that the plane was hanging by its nose, engines at max and stall warning blaring in a vain attempt to maintan altitude. Man, those are looong flights when that happens

in real world nowhere near it mike something like 5600nm i think without checking,but as we are in the virtual world who knows watch the flightmap
this sounds like a perfect challenge for my new engines justin had fitted for me,might even try it online tomorrow and will have to plan a few route alts carefully,otherwise will be last seen plunging of ATC radar in glide mode

I never had a problem flying into or leaving my hometown.I really don't know,but maybe you wr just not luck then.Everything happens with fs.I have had many thing strange things with fs and ive bn flying on sim more than years now.
