Is the weather radar really good?

Yes, it is the best weather radar I know.
It simulates radar shadows behind the clouds and ground echos, which can be removed by adjusting the "Tilt" angle.
Right clicking on the "Hold" bar enables or disables the stabilizer which sets the 0 degrees tilt angle to the horizontal or in relationship to the aircraft. With the "Track" buttoms you can adjust the horizontal track direction to the left or right.
If you use it as a pop-up-gauge, it is very simple to install.Just some clicks on the configuration tool. The only disadvantage is the drop-stack on the upper left corner. And there must be room for one more window at the panel.cfg. This makes it difficult to install it with the PMDG MD11, because PMDG uses the maximum of the windows. For deeper information have a look into the manual, you can download it from RealityXP.
