Nice shots Terry! The 742 looks like a nice a/c, though I just can't like that panel..
By the way, ever tried the Cloud9 LAX scenery? It's awesome!

Thanks jason,
the 742 is a great aircraft to fly, makes you feel thats its you flying it and not some stupid FMC doing all the work for you
As for the panel i no what you mean but once you get into flying the 742 how the panel looks is the last thing on your mind.so much else to do
the PMDG 744 VC obviously beats it hands down for looks but when in the 742 you dont have that much time for looking about at your surroundings
also the 742 doenst kill the fps like the 744 does and doesnt have the silly S-turns that just about everyone that flys the 744 seems to experience and as its years older than the 744 i think it was ahead of its time when it was first released and would recommend that everyone has a try of flying it..and its completly FREE now
i just find the 744 boring to fly now,take-off down the runway, rotate, climb to 400ft then select the autopilot and thats it in the 744 , nothing else to do apart from check the fuel system when the CTR tanks go dry and then later switch it to tank to engine, but thats just my humble opinion
i also think i have learnt a lot more about this whole flying malarky sincei started flying the 742 and dont think i will be going back to the 744 for a long time in fact if ever
if you fancy it id recommend you download the RFP from avsim and then download this POSKY/RFP merge and see how you get on,just place the POSKY folder into your FS9 aircraft folder and fly
heres the link to the merge
http://www.yousendit.com/download/T2pGc ... Y1N4dnc9PQ which will Expire on: February 28, 2011 05:58 PST
and i have seen the cloud9 KLAX scenery and have actually forgotten about it .in fact i must see about buying it today thanks for reminding me about it
see you up there

Nice pics Terry,
You're enthusiasm for the B742 has made me download the RFP B742 and the posky merge. Is that the only thing I have to download or do I have to go to your other post and do all the tweaking too?
Regards,

hi peter,
good to hear the 742 is coming back into fashion, heres a link to download the complete aircraft ready to drop into your FS9 aircraft folder
heres the link and once it downloads you just drop it into your main aircraft folder and fly
http://www.yousendit.com/download/T2pGc ... Y1N4dnc9PQ
you also need to download the
CIVA INS 1.51 from here
http://www.simufly.com/ins/ which is triple ins and if you check this link for a basic tutorial ,theres some info missing in it i would say but theres enough for you to get the basics of it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nF0-ZbvjrEw
and search avsim for
conv2adeu which is the adeu card reader which then lets you load 9 waypoints at once instead of plugging in each waypoint individually
and also search avsim for
spray_v2.1.zip and install it
also the aircraft CFG file in the download assumes you have
shockwave 3D redux lighting installed so i would advise you to buy that rather than have to redo the CFG back to default lighting ,cos i think it took my fellow pilot michael zoellner at cargolux VA 3-4 hrs to just do the lighting part of the CFG.
theres also a couple of files for the CIVA gauges to work and a TCAS file which i have uploaded here for you
https://www.yousendit.com/download/T2pI ... R2V4dnc9PQ inside this folders there are 2 TCAS files called
TCAS2v7.dll+TCAS2v7.ini you just drop them into your main
FS9 folder,
also there is 2 CIVA files called
CIVA_HSI.gau+ILH_TCAS.gau, and you just drop them 2 into the
FS9/GAUGES folder , make sense??
i also have lots of performance charts and checklists for the 742 and also utilities for fuel planning and take off calculations, although they were written for the RFP they will get you going until you work out just how far out they are as the MERGE usses the POSKY model and not the RFP model.if you need them.c from here
https://www.yousendit.com/download/T2pI ... UUZFQlE9PQ
regards terry
PS i think i will have to ask justin if he would be able to host these files on the website as i am starting to get sore fingers from typing and also its keeping me away from flying the 742
if i have missed anything or you have any questions fire away,
LOOKING FORWARD TO ALL THE BEERS COMING MY WAY SOON
PS incase i never made it clear the CFG file in the merge is already written to have the CIVA INS,SHOCKWAVE LIGHTING,TCAS GAUGES,SPRAY EFFECTS AND EVERYTHING SO NO TWEAKING OF THE CFG FILE SHOULD BE NEEDED

The INS is not that difficult, once you're used to it it's actually easier then a FMC (personal opinion). The thing is, (if I can recall it correctly from flying the Concorde) it can hold up to only 9 waypoints at a time. So eventually you have to update your INS through the flight with the new waypoint data. It's not like the modern jets where you just fill in the FMC during preflight, push three buttons after takeoff so you can relax for the coming ten hours..

As a side note, the real world newer version of this modelled CIVA INS can hold 99 waypoints. I wish the CIVA developers would model that one
When I was a heavy CIVA user I printed out the Operations Manual and the Action and Malfunction Codes document for easy reference during flight. For preflight and normal ops, the Ops Manual is a well designed document which is easy to follow. Malfunctions, which this excellent piece of software models, is covered in great detail in the Action and Malfunctions Codes document.
I highly recommend printing out these doccuments for users who spend any kind of time running the CIVA. My personal preference for printing, as I'm one to conserve as much ink as possible, is to print "2 pages per sheet". This technique uses half the ink and paper that a full page would and it fits neatly into a small size binder that can be found at office supply stores. Readability of the page isn't compromised so it works well for me. So, if you are an ink nazi like I am you can use this technique to get important documents printed for easy reference.

I can't get that link to the direct download to work, it says the file has expired and is no longer available. I am having trouble with this sort of stuff at the moment. When I tried to watch a video it says I now have to have a Youtube account. Then it says I should link my Youtube account to a Google account.

hi john,
id say your pc is working 100% fine as that file has expired and is not available for download anymore,so no worries,
and as for youtube and google i had that same experience a year or so ago and found it easiest just to sign-up in the end, either that or not watch you tube or use google to search stuff
.....
check your emails i sent a new download link to the address i have for you,
or if not try these ones
File expiration date: permanently March 10, 2011
