"A promotion to the rank of Captain now requires a minimum of 150 flight hours logged. Promotions then are issued by seniority. The number of Captain positions available has not changed which is 50% of the total number of Globe Cargo pilots. Per the Pilot Manual, maintaining the balance of equal F/O's and Captains is company wide, not region specific. The responsibility of Captain promotions has been shifted from the Region Managers to the discretion of the Director of Flight Ops. This policy change is not retro-active and if you currently are ranked Captain with fewer than 150 logged hours you will remain Captain. All future promotions, effective immediately, will require the 150 hour minimum. The real world link: an Airline Transport Pilot certificate (in the USA) is required to be upgraded to Captain. The ATP certificate itself requires 1500 hours of total flight time as one of the requirements to obtain the certificate. Justin"
