"A problem with the Nairobi (NBO) runway, anyone?"
"Hi guys! I've run into a weird problem at NBO (HKJK) where there seems to be a hidden tree (or something) in the middle of the runway near the beginning of runway 24 (or end of 6). Every time I roll over that certain spot, FS says crash. But there is nothing visibly wrong with the runway! Nor are there any other obstacles near the runway. Airplane weight or speed does not matter at all. It is always that exact same spot. I was wondering has anyone else bumped into such an anomaly? I'm using the default fs scenery for Nairobi. The only way I can take off from that runway is to turn off crash detection in FS options, which I did yesterday, in order to complete my flight. This is becoming rather irritating. Is there any way (e.g. AFCAD etc.) to edit the airfield and fix such a problem? Petri"
"Hi Petri Had the same problem with a flight from LIMC "Malpensa in Milan " just got up to 80 knts then Crash, did it 2 or 3 times before I like you Petri switched off the Crash Detection, then when the Flight was finished I re-installed the 400f and it seems to be ok,possibly due to some corrupted Files? Mike "
"I always have crash detection turned off, I know it is not as real as it gets, but many times I would get crashes close to buildings or other planes (not touching them at all) Other times I have had AI traffic taxi right through me. Or on vatsim, if someone else pops up on top of you. Or if you leave a flight for 15 minutes and come back and you are overspeed, fs will reset... Turning it off just prevents a lot of aggrivation, for me anyway."
I also fly with crashes turned off because so many "crashes" are horribly innacurate. In my opinion it's more realistic to fly w/ crashes turned off than on I've seen an issue mentioned about the type of runway surface causing crashes. I think it was Bituminous and there were extremely few of those runways in the FS world. Check afcad to see if it might be that same issue. Justin

"Thanks for the tip, Justin! I'll check if that could be the source of the problem. And, I do agree that the crash-detection is very poor in FS (at least when it comes to the big iron). I have already LOOOONG ago turned off the "allow crashes with other airplanes" option due to the idiot AI pilots taxiing right through me. I guess I'll have to at least seriously consider turning off FS crash detection altogether... Petri"

Excellent! Every once in a while I get a lucky guess Report back here to let us know if that really did fix the problem. Justin""PetriSuni" wrote:Hi Justin! You were right! The runway surface at Nairobi IS indeed bituminous... Petri
