DET FIRE / OHT 3

Post by rossspargo »

"Hey guys, When I made a flight in the 744, I got the above Warning message in the EICAS. The message appeared along with a Wauler (Not sure how you spell that!). I silenced the wauler! I thought it meant (very obvious) Detection of Fire or Overheat on Engine 3, however, I went to the overhead panel and the engine 3 fire light was not illuminated, so I took no action! Should I have taken action? Thanks, Ross S"

"Hey Ross, Well according to the PMDG Abnormal Procedures QRH (which we should all have within reach when we fly this very realistic bird :D ) For this EICAS message it states: Condition: Engine fire/overheat detection loops A and B have failed. There is no action for the crew to take apparently so according to this you did the correct thing. Incidentally, I was watching the Justplanes Polar video again recently for the 100th time (get a life, I know) and near the end of the DVD, on the flight from KMIA to KJFK on the -400, right after takeoff you'll hear the Captain saying something about an equipment cooling problem. If you go to the section regarding Equipment Cooling EICAS message in the Abnormal Procedures QRH you'll hear him read, word for word, the action to be taken for this issue as shown in the PMDG manual. I was impressed to say the least but this is what we've come to expect with high-end add-ons today afterall  . PMDG has done an excellent job my friends. Take care, Mark"

"Just curious Mark, is that Just Planes video one of the CD's that you have to order? Or is it somewhere online to watch?"

"Hey Mark, Thanks for that :) Glad I done the right thing! Im the same as you, love watching and rewatching the 744 dvd's (and the 742). I am hoping to buy the Polar DVD from Worldairroutes. I currently own the Virgin Atlantic 742+744 and Cathay Pacific 744 (ITVV) I watch either of them every Saturday night  Bryan, You have to buy the DVD's :) from WorldAirRoutes Thanks, Ross S"

"Also can be found at http://justplanes.com/ for $30. It's pretty good but too many shots out the window in my opinion. They do a pretty good job though. It's definately got plenty of flights, 7 in all. 2 with the 742 and 5 with the 744. Mark"

"Yes Louis, I agree with you on that based on what I have read and heard. I am considering purchasing the Virgin(?) 744 DVD. Do you have that one and if so, what's your opinion? Mark"

"Ya know, Ross, I've been thinking about the situation you recently had with the Engine fire/overheat detection loops A and B. According to the 744 MEL (Min. Equip. List) that's available on the new website, you actually should have landed at the nearest airport when two loops have failed on one engine. On page 26-1 (actually pg. 148 of the .pdf) it states that one loop per engine can be inoperative. In your case, A AND B have failed. So if I read this correctly you should have diverted. What does everyone else think about this? Eventually this will become an issue here at Globe when we start considering MEL's. Mark"

"Mark, Thanks for the page reference in the .pfd file, I was searching for ages trying to find the correct situation! I have had the Virgin Atlantic 744 DVD for about 3 months now and I watch it every Saturday Night! Thats how good it is for me! Well and I think Virgin Atlantic is the best airline so that may come into consideration when I watch it  Alan Carter and Allan Rattigan are inspirations to me! I recommend purchasing this DVD anyday :!: (Alan Carter no longer flies for Virgin Atlantic :( ) Would somebody be able to send me the MEL for the 744 as i cannot open it! I can access the 742! ( I accidently deleted my copy :() Also, just an enquiry on the New webby! Where, when its fully active, do you find Atlas Charter flights?"

"Mark, I downloaded the 744 MEL from opspecs.com. I have the Word Document version, I search for the situation and it is on Pg143 in this verision. Yes, I see what you mean about ONE LOOP may be inoperative, but, how are you sure both loops were inoperative? Just wondering as it dosent mention about both loops being damaged anywhere on the EICAS! Thanks, Ross S"

Ross, I'm going strictly by the Abnormal Procedures QRH which states that with this particular EICAS message that you received, the condition that exists is: Engine fire/overheat detection loops A and B have failed. I'm assuming that if one loop fails that you may not get this message which bodes the question: How would you know when only one loop fails? Hmmmmm. This is probably a good question to pose in the PMDG forum and let Mr. Randazzo or one of the other RL 744 pilots answer. I'll be watching for your post over there or I can do it. Just let me know. Oh yes, by the way. I just purchased the ITVV Virgin 744 DVD yesterday and it should be coming across the pond to me sometime this week. Really looking forward to it :D . Take care, Mark"

The MEL for both aircrafts are on the new site under Fleet->Maintenance->MEL. I have also included the links here... http://www.globecargova.org/Fleet/MEL_B742_R33.pdf http://www.globecargova.org/Fleet/MEL_B744_R21c.pdf The Atlas part of the new website is still in beta testing but once operational, it will be found under the flight operations menu..."

"Hey Mark and Tomas, Mark, Congats on purchasing the Virgin 744, it is a beauty!!! Alan, Allan and John go through all the panels, and well everything, from the paperwork to the walkaround and from the PFD to the FMC. Would you be able to post a comment on the PMDG forum for me please, as I find the AVSIM forums complicated to use and as of yet, I am not signed up with it. Thomas, I still cannot download the 744 PDF file! It opens Adobe Reader, says Done in the bottom left hand corner of the screen but no document comes up! I do however have a copy of the 744 MEL in a Word Doc :) Thanks for the hint that the Atlas Charter button isnt online yet as I thought it was a problem with my computer. Thanks all, Ross S PS. Enjoy the DVD Mark, its great :D"
