Asia Scenery Payware

Post by PAC1544 »

"Has anyone used Overland's Japanese Airports or any of the SAMSOFT scenery? I was looking at buying some scenery for Asia while I wait for Cloud 9 to have another sale. I was thinking of getting Japanese Aiports III to get Narita and SAMSOFT Shanghai Day and Night, or maybe Seoul. If anyone has tried any of these, I'd sure like some opinions before I blow money on them."

"I have most of the Overland Japanese packages. Nothing better as far as I am concerned. Well worth the price. Not too impressed with Samsoft. Phil, 1545"

"Do you own the SAMSOFT? I am NOT impressed by the screenshots I have seen. Certainly not for the price they ask, but I saw the Flightsim.com shop had Japanese Airports for $22 USD and thought I might pick up #3 for the Narita."

"I have the Samsoft Taiwan Today scenery. The graphics could be better. It is not too bad on the frame rates, but I kept getting an issue with installing it, then, something to do with collision detection, even though it is disabled in FS. I eventually disabled the scenery and don't plan on using it again. Never had any problems like that with any of the other addon sceneries."

"I have 3 Overland airport packages. All three have great detail and very good frame rates. Also, have not found any scenery bugs. I have Samsoft's Shangai, Singapore and Taiwan sceneries. Upon initial release Samsoft's scenery requires a patch to fix CTDs and frame rate issues. Originally, their Shanghai scenery had invisible collisons and CTDs. The Very Singapore scenery had a major AFCAD problem whereby radar vectors would not align with the specific runway. Approaches required navigation by dead reckoning!!! HTH"

"HUGE help thank you. So I will steer clear of Samsoft. I have another bunch of sceneries that are tough to deal with, simflyers. Their stuff is ok as long as I keep the details all the way to the right on the sliders."

"I have Simflyers for KIAD, KATL, and KDFW and there scenery is so good (i.e. detailed) that it is unusable on my machine. It turns my flghtsim into a slide show. Literally 1 FPM. And I know others have said the same. Neat piece of kit if you have the PC horsepower."

"I picked up the Overland Japan airports. They are ok...Not FlightZone or FlyTampa quality, and the Night Textures pretty much suck, but better than most. I just bought III though so I could have Narita, so no idea what the others are like. I found a really nice freeware Hong Kong (Not Kai Tak) and Seoul (Project Seoul version) happy with both. Glad I didn't drop $$ on SamSoft, but I wish I could find a good Pudong/Shanghai. Anyone know of a version that's freeware or payware that's great or excellent quality, or at least good ;)"
