Globe Cargo Express
"Though it may seem like there hasn't been much activity lately, management is always looking for ways to improve the airline and your enjoyment of the airline. Our latest idea is to introduce a regional division of Globe Cargo called Globe Cargo Express, code GCX. Here are some initial thoughts: Aircraft: in keeping with GC's policy on realism the only suitable aircraft are payware. The fleet will consist of 727's and ATR's. There are a couple decent payware aircraft for both models. After looking at the models the Dreamfleet 727 and Flight1 ATR were selected because many people are very satisfied with them. We do recognize that many people may have the models we didn't select such as Captain Sim 727 and Aerosoft ATR. Don't worry, we will allow those to be used so that pilots don't have to purchase the DF727 or F1 ATR. However, internal support of the fleet will be limited to the DF727 and F1 ATR. The 727 and ATR is planned to have a GCX livery, not polar or atlas, but this is not confirmed yet. Routes: The route structure will be designed and used by each "region". Though we don't use regions anymore they still exist in name to keep pilots and admins organized. The structure is based on 1 or 2 main hubs per region and a couple "mini hubs" per main hub. From each mini hub there are several outstations which are served by the ATR. From the outstations, ATR's feed to the mini hub (and sometimes directly to a main hub) which serve the 727. The 727 then feeds the main hub where the cargo is transferred to the 747. The routes will be designed so that as few airplanes are used as possible. The intent of this is not to double the size of the airline routes but to add another option for shorter flights with different equipment. We don't want GCX to overshadow Polar and Atlas mainline operations. Bidding: GCX flights will be available in the monthly bid as well as some charter flights. Though flights will be developed by the regions and for the regions, all GCX scheduled flights will go into the regular database and any pilot in GC can bid on any GCX flight. There are two parts to this to be clear about: new hire pilots will not be assigned to the ATR or 727 until x amount of hours have been logged; and a pilot in the NSA "region" is able to bid for GCX flights from AA "region". Implementation: If there is enough interest in GCX there will be some work to do before it becomes operational. For example, FSACARS needs to be changed to allow GCX flight numbers, a livery needs to be produced if we choose to do so, we are looking at getting GCX callsign registered with VATSIM, routes need to be developed, some slight changes to the website to add information about the two new aircraft. There isn't anything too difficult to do there's just a lot of small items. At this time we do not have an estimate of when the first flights will appear in the database. We need to gauge the amount of interest first before putting more effort into the project. Please let us know your thoughts and suggestions."

"There will still be the realism of the Globe Cargo Virtual Airlines part of the site, operating Polar and Atlas flights! However, if pilots wish to fly shorter routes in different aircraft, they can chose to fly the 'virtual' part of Globe Cargo and fly for Globe Cargo Express. Globe Cargo Express is going to be totally independant and will not affect the operations of GCVA. It will just be an addition You dont have to fly for GCX, you can continue to fly for Polar and Atlas and never even participate in GCX if you wish! GCX, if it enters service, is going to start on a very small scale!"

One of the reason for this is for pilots flying on Vatsim. Not everybody has the time to fly a full 8-12 hour flight non-stop on Vatsim. Some people calso like to do a quick flight after work when they get home. That could fulfill their needs.

Hmmmm, you mean they don't have a Controller on there that can do time accelleration? ""esurfman" wrote:One of the reason for this is for pilots flying on Vatsim. "Please be advised that the following information is not set in stone and here just to give you a heads up on what management is considering. Feel free to add comments as you wish. ********************************************************** Since Polar/Atlas and DHL have a strong partnership (real world) we are strongly considering the implementation of DHL's structure into GC. This would be in place of GCX. DHL operates all over the world with equipment such as ATR (very limited from what I understand), 727, 757, A300, and a few others. Is this a better option than GCX which is not based on a real airline? Justin"
