EK to UAE?

Post by Francis »

"I have bid for EK---- (emirates skycargo) flights this month, but am unsure whether to fly on VATSIM as callsign GTI (they are operated by Atlas Air) or UAE (Emirates). Any ideas?"

"Francis, always use your Polar or Atlas designator. GTI/PO for all flying including your pireps in FSFK or FSACARS."

So log on as PAC for polar and GTI for Atlas including Emirates SkyCargo when on VATSIM... right ok no problem.

"Correct, but on your PIREP's be sure and use the standard PO for Polar ie; POXXX."

Except that Emirates are operated by Atlas so you would use 5Yxxxx for your PIREP."

"Francis, Make sure when flying on VATSIM use your pilot ID. Example if you are flying EK9980 your online callsign would be GTI1640 in the remarks section of flight plan put the actual flight number. Your PIREP would be 5y9980."

"That I use my pilot ID logging on? That is frankly quite ridiculous and very unrealistic. Are you sure you don't mean the other way round, that is to say use GTI9980 for instance online, as that is the flight number but include my pilot ID in the remarks section? Surely that is more realistic and easier."

"Further to what you said Craig, I saw this tonight looking on ServInfo, one of our pilots not flying with his GTI16-- callsign but the callsign of the flight with in fact no mention of his pilot ID, neither of which I think really matter, except that we should nto be forced to use our Pilot IDs as VATSIM callsigns. Just my point of view, in terms of realism, which apart from this apparent anomaly (I can't find anywhere in the pilot manual that stipulates we must use our pilot IDs as callsigns when on the VATSIM online network, or words to that effect). Image My VATSIM flight-plan remarks section format is something like this B74F/H-SIPRWXY/S EET/OIXX0019 LTAA0208 UKFV0323 LRBB0333 LHCC0426 LZBB0441 LOVV0452 EDFF0510 REG/N497MC SEL/RSLM DOF/070707 RVR/400 RMK/TCAS RMK/LAHSO NOT AUTH.) I flightplan to this format (FPL-GTI9971-IS -B744F/H-SIPRWXY/S -OMDB1215 -N0492F340 PAPAR UP574 ROTAL T201 DASDO UL223 UMH UL124 VAN A4 ESENK UL851 ERZ UW704 KUGOS UL851 CND UM747 NERDI UL602 PATAK UY300 NIT UM991 OKR UL856 DENUX L856 TAGAS L610 LUGIM L174 LNZ UT161 SUBEN T161 PSA2W -EDDF0543 EDDK -EET/OIXX0019 LTAA0208 UKFV0323 LRBB0333 LHCC0426 LZBB0441 LOVV0452 EDFF0510 REG/N497MC SEL/RSLM DOF/070707 RVR/400 RMK/TCAS RMK/LAHSO NOT AUTH.) which I understand is how it's done real-world."

"Francis, I believe the main reason behind that is so that other persons know you are with Globe Cargo VA. What you saw on the "live" flight map was probably someone who has not realized the issue. It has been common for pilots to make this mistake however so far everyone corrects it immediately upon learning the issue. Also in regard to VATSIM, I believe in the past there was an issue of other pilots not from Globe that were running similar call signs as our guys. That too I believe is another reason for the request that you fly as Craig mentioned in his post. As for the Pilot manual. There are probably several things you can find that are not in it as of this moment and several things that are in it that do not really apply any longer. Currently we have a CEO who is very busy going through real world flight training, and Craig I believe has been very busy with his job as well. The Pilot manual has been going through some work but we have not seen it yet as it is a very involved process and frankly it's just not finished yet. So having said that, in the mean time, we have to do alot of "ad-lib" corrections and postings on the forum here. Someday you will see a "finished product" in regard to the Pilot manual. Until then if you have a suggestion just post it for review by the guys that decide what goes in the manual. I am sure they will take your suggestion under review."

"Francis, I know it's not the most realistic way to go about the online callsigns, but you must understand that there are many pilots in this VA that can Bid the same flight as you, as well as others who just like flying actual EK flights. If all where attempting to fly the same callsign at the same time it couldn't be done. This is why we decided that when we fly "online" we use our Pilot ID #'s. We do try to keep it real as it gets but some concessions need to be made."

The reason is that the same flight can be flown by First Officers and Captains :!:

"I would like to see that changed. People can identify my status within the VA by my pilot ID in my flightplan remarks section. Yes, on VATSIM callsigns have to be unique, but I don't see how you need to do this given that just about every other VA, with the exception of Fly UK (a fictional virtual airline), operates in the VATSIM environment using the flight callsigns. If necessary we modify them. I don't see why I shuold have to use my pilot ID on VATSIM, when the same problem might occur with someone wanting to log on as, say GTI1640. Until such a time as it is included in the pilot manual, I will operate on VATSIM with the callsign of the flight, and the Pilot ID will remain in my flightplan remarks section. I will PIREPs in the approved manner. If I find someone not in the VA using my callsign, I will either a) Ask them if I can use the callsign b) Advance mine on by two digits (e.g GTI971 becoming GTI9973) c) Resort to using my Pilot ID as my callsign. In any case, having lots of GTI16-- callsigns can be confusing for controllers like myself."

Francis, just so were on the same sheet of music so to speak, I will just quote what Craig has said. As I said earlier, the manual is in the works for revisions. When it was printed up, not too many were doing VATSIM. If you vary from our Director of Flight Operations' instructions it is a very good possibility that your flight will not get counted of course unless you have been approved from the DOFO to vary from those instructions. Hope I didn't confuse what you were saying in your last post. Your understanding and cooperation is totally appreciated."

"Francis, I am sorry we can't drop everything we do in real life to update the pilot manual everytime we make a change. If information needs to get out to pilots quickly the FAA issues NOTAMS and if you take the time to read ours you would find that out CEO (who is a pilot) and myself (who dispatches for the real Polar/Atlas) has issued a NOTAM on the issue of callsigns. Once we get our new plans for this VA in order we will update the Pilot manual and all manuals to reflect changes. I respectfully ask you to follow our procedures."

"Francis, if your interested, this link will take you to the NOTAM that Craig referred to. It would be a good idea of you would browse those NOTAMS just in case there may be any other issues that could be clarified. http://globecargova.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2103 Thanks again"
