Aircraft Ground Speed Records

Here is where the coffee machine and Coke machine are kept. Please clean up after yourself and do not remove the magazines from this area. A good place to exchange thoughts with Operations personel and other pilots.

Aircraft Ground Speed Records

Post by nwadc10 »

I came across this site I found several years ago and had saved it on a CD. http://www.speedrecords.tk/ It's a database of aircraft types and (unofficial) groundspeed records including pictures as proof. I have a picture somewhere with a higher GS for the BE-76 Duchess than is the current record on the site. Trouble is that I have no idea where that photo is.

"Whats the length of the r/way Justin to get a 747/200 upto 623 knts ?or do they do it in some kind of testbed, you.ll need almost as long again to slow it down ?"

I sure hope these are speeds over ground (vs true or indicated airspeed) and not speeds on the ground! :D

"Im thinking surely they are ground speed as in while airborne, not even sure if they make a tire for the 747 that is rated at that speed? Sure would produce a lot of sidewall heat in a real quick time."

"Yeah, 747 tires are rated at 220 kts max. So that would have been some show if it was on the ground! :D"
