I would consider myself a newbie yet considering how many pilots have been flying years and years more than I and have thousands of hours more time than I do. LOL, actually no, I was thinking... We have the AT&T call center in my jurisdiction and I see many people go and come from that area. They never look much like they are happy. When I get to thinking about being tired or unthankful for what I have in a career, I just go take a drive by the AT&T lot at their shift change and it kind of humbles me.

Jamal, im not saying new hires and seasoned pilots should not get more money, indeed anyone that has gone through years of training and dedication and taking on that kind of responsibility should get paid accordingly.
But airlines are not run by pilots, they are run by bean counters as in all large corporations, and they have to answer to shareholders who want to see profits, or they sell their stocks and move on.
Not fair at all, but that is the way it is these days. In fact, I am amazed that the airlines are doing better these days than they did after that 9-11 attack.
I think that the majority of the people that fly as passengers are very nervous about flying, and it will only take another 9-11 or similar to knock the legs out from under the airline industry again, and you will have pilots and crews looking for other jobs again.

this is the reason y our pay is so low SJ syndrome..Management see pilots are willing to work for near damn minimum wage just because flying a Jet is cool when it's all said and done it's a JOB a J.O.B, JOB we all know how it feels to pay a ton of money on that new shiney toy only to find out over time its not as appealing as it use to be..it will happen i dont care what anybody say QUALITY OF LIFE vs SHINEY JET i choose Quality of life..
Justin's pay is low, because that's an entry level job. The idea is to gain experience so he can move to a better job later. That's called paying your dues. Common in most industries. Not only is it an entry level job, but there are an assload of guys willing to do it for chump change. That's market forces. That's how it works in a capitalist economy. It isn't knowledge or necessarily responsibility that determines wages. It's market forces. Demand. How many guys at GC would be in the airline industry if they could? Many of us aren't, because it's a hard industry to break into. Why? Because there are plenty of people to fill the demand. Justin's doing a job that many of us only dream of. He's paid accordingly.
Since I'm a trucker, let me bust your teary eyed dreams of a trucker's life. I log 70 hours a week, I only get paid for about 50 hours of it, then I work another 8-10 hours I don't log. For 7 days worth of efforts, most truckers earn 1 day off. More money? Sure, on the front end. But, bottom line, I'm making as much as I will ever make. If I move "up". I can be a dispatcher, working almost as many hours for less money, and commute 65 miles across Atlanta, each way, every day. Some future.... Not to mention I sleep in truck stops, breathe diesel fumes all day, eat crappy, artery clogging food and people treat me like a turd in a t-shirt.

The management you refer to as "greedy", are doing their jobs, keeping costs down by not paying hot shot pilots more than they're worth. That's capitalism. (I'm a capitalist pig). Capitalism is the reason America is less than 6% of the world's population, but more than 25% of the world's economy. As for the unionization you apparently support in a most mindless mannner, I think you should realize that unions, though at one time, probably were useful, are an anachronism that cost modern day workers jobs. In the age of the internet, the interstate and U-Hauls, there is no need for unions, and no excuse for letting an employer dump all over you. Legalized extortion is not the answer to your ills and is a detriment to the very system, from which you benefit... to the point you sit behind a pc and lament to a global audience, the abysmal conditions of people doing something most people only dream of.
Sorry to bust your nads, Jamal. I see a lot of youth, inexperince and naivete' in your post. As other posters have hinted, attitude is key. You need to understand, if you work for someone else, you play by their rules. On top of that, no one ever got rich, working for someone else.
If you are truly comcerned with quality of life, perhaps you should start your own airline. Then you could be paid what you're worth, work your own hours, and pay these other pilots what you think they are worth. Then come back here and tell me I'm full of it. /rant
