New Guy Here

Post by NOLAND3 »

Hi, New F/O here 28yrs old been flying the PMDG 744F with Cargolux and BA Virtual online for a while now. I had a read through your forums and was impressed with the realism here. My father has been on the 744F real world for about 4 years now and that's what got me interested in the Cargo side of things (He loves it compared to pax flying) Anyway hope to see you in the Virtual skies :)

Welcome Rob, good to have you aboard. Best advice I can give you is if you are on approach to a crash landing at night and you don't like what you see, turn off the landing lights....!

Seriously, probably the best thing that can help you right now is take time to read your manual, then read over some of the forum topics that affect operations such as procedures, etc that may be in the Notams or other threads. Ask questions, then ask some more. Don't be afraid to ask. Above all HAVE FUN!

See you out there!

Thanks guys, I have read all the documentation, downloaded the fleet and set up FS Flightkeeper so I am ready to go. Just one question.. I fly with failures set at minimum 1 every 10 hours in the PMDG options, if I fly Atlas charters I dont have a specific aircraft so am I right in thinking I dont report any faults?

You can report faults, but be careful. We have found that 1 every ten hours is sometimes not realistic. We have tried to keep our MX department protected in that respect. When we first started we had guys reporting faults on every flight almost. Remember most of the long hauls are at least 4 to 8 hours. Some even 10. So with that in mind, you might want to set faults only on some flights.

Though Atlas doesn't keep certain tail number accountability/location yet, we still participate in the MX program.

Yeah I agree, it's a shame that's the lowest setting PMDG will allow but I dont see them changing that anytime soon. Anyway I seem to have been lucky so far with only minor EICAS faults every now and then. But I will take your advice, I dont want to over burden the MX department :)

Speaking of mx, on one flight, KLAX/VHHH I think it was, I had a high EGT on #3 about 3 hours into the flight. I got Allan, our mx guy, on the line and following the procedure in the book I shut down #3 and diverted to KSEA. Good times... :)
