How is the performance of the PMDG 747-400X?

Here is where the coffee machine and Coke machine are kept. Please clean up after yourself and do not remove the magazines from this area. A good place to exchange thoughts with Operations personel and other pilots.

How is the performance of the PMDG 747-400X?

Post by khelm »

I've had FSX for a while now, and with some tweaking and updating my PC can run it; I plan on purchasing the 747-400X tomorrow, and want to know if my system will handle it.

Chassis ( Aeoncraft Trio Gaming Chasis w/ 3x Meters )

Processor ( [Socket-AM2] AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Dual-Core CPU w/ HyperTransport Technology )
Processor Cooling ( Aeoncraft Quiet & Cool CPU Liquid Cooling Kit [AMD Version] )
Motherboard ( Abit KN9-SLI nForce 570-SLI Chipset w/7.1 HD Audio , Dual Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, IEEE-1394 Dual PCI-E MB )
Memory ( 2048MB [1024MB X2] DDR2-800 PC6400 Memory Module Major Brand)
Video Card ( ATI Radeon X1950XTX 512MB PCI-Express x16 )
Hard Drive ( High Performance Serial-ATA-II Hard Drive 250GB - 7,200 RPM w/8MB Cache )
Sound Card ( High Definition 7.1 3D Surround Sound Onboard )

With the Wilco ERJ I get about 10 fps on the ground and 20-30 in the air.
Would the 747 be very different?

Hi Kevin,

Your system should manage the 744X fine :) I have roughly the same system as you with an Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 Processor, 2GB RAM, 512MB Graphics etc.... (ill but the proper spec in my signature before long :)) and it seems to run OK :)

Im not sure what the frames are like on FSX as I havent checked it out (only took the 744 for a couple of quick hops), however, on FS9 the new update is great and im getting around 20FPS on the ground and upto 65FPS in the cruise!

I can get some stats with the 744X in FSX later this evening for you :)

All right, I bought it. 88USD. OUCH!!! I get really decent fps, upwards of 20 on the ground and more in the air. Now I have a new problem. My Digital MCP doesn't display the HDG, ALT, V/S or anything, just black squares. Its wierd because the old rolling gauges (first gen 744) work fine, but not the LCD. Now the problem has stemmed to fs2004. I wonder if it was the FS9 update that went awry. :x :?: :?:

Have you restarted your computer since the install?

I had this problem and a simple computer restart fixed it ;)

I have read in some forums that when people have ahd this issue, they had to unintall the whole thing (FS9 and all) and re-do it in the correct order:

FS9 PMDG 744

FS9 PMDG 744F

FSX Upgrade

FS9 Patch

Fortunately I didn't have to do that. Restarting my PC did the trick

Now that I've been flying FSX for a week or so, I haven't even touched FS9. I can't believe how much better it is. They even added Parasitic drag in one form or another. SWEET!!

I don't know if I'll ever go back to FS9. It is occupying a nice big 2GB chunk of my hard drive....
