ATA bankruptcy/Shutdown sends AMC into tail spin.

Here is where the coffee machine and Coke machine are kept. Please clean up after yourself and do not remove the magazines from this area. A good place to exchange thoughts with Operations personel and other pilots.

ATA bankruptcy/Shutdown sends AMC into tail spin.

Post by khelm »

With the shutdown of ATA, the AMC has had to adjust 70 flights from now until September.

Since Polar, and Atlas are part of the group of airlines that fly for the AMC, should we maybe add some flights to ORBS or surrounding area to assist the AMC with its new problem?

I would volunteer to fly it, I have to cousins in Iraq, maybe I could say hi 8)

Those 70 flights were PAX only and are likely to be awarded to North American and World.

You know, I thought the same thing at first, but then I read that FedEx themselves were picking up some of the flights, and it got me thinking that maybe North American (with their 757/767's) and World Airways (DC-10/MD-11's) might not be able to handle the cargo aspect of the canceled ATA flights (even though ATA operated what, PAX L-1011's and DC-10's?).

I'll do some more research and see what I can find.

I know for sure about the NA thing because of some people I know that work there. Keep in mind too, that World owns North American. I didnt think that ATA carried all that much freight, but you never know. Id be interested in your findings.

From what the press said here in St. Louis, not sure if its true or not, but ATA lost either a renewal or new military contract which spun them in to bankruptcy and ultimately shuting them down. Our airport see lots of Military contract flights and I have never heard of ATA flying cargo. Mostly World, North American and occasionally Ryan Air visit us picking up troops, no cargo (yet). To be honest the last ATA flight we saw might have been last year but I leaning more too like 2006 with there L1011 eating the almost the entire 10000 foot runway on takeoff we have. I remember cause I was thinking about suiting up and driving my Crash fire rescue truck out because I thought it was not going to get off the ground before the end. I think the main gear left the ground with under a thousand feet to go from my vantage point(not far away) maybe as little as 500 feet.

Another one is on the horizon, Frontier. They filed for protection but claim they will fly on for now. We'll have to wait and see. Its going to get real ugly before its turns around again. I hope our only air carrier at the airport, Allegiant Air, can weather this storm.

ATA's Tristars and DC-10's were mainly used to move troops and family members from the US West coast to the far east . Yakota AB , Osan AB and the states . Some DC10's , 757's and occasionally a 737-800 were used on various trips from the US east coast into Europe and Middle East.
