Relief flights
Are we doing any relief flights to Bruma ??
They are estimating over 30 000 dead from Hurricanes last week.
We could fly to their closest neighbours Thailand if vatsim wont allow us into Burma direct.
Marines and Aid agencies are all basing at thailand.
Just a thought
Regards

Re: Relief flights
Can't fly into Myanmar, so it would have to be Thailand.

Not sure, just remember some talk about it a while back. Before I was Atlas Manager, I read a post in regard to this. Like I said, as long as everyone is ok with it, I'll come up with some and get them posted.khelm wrote:I'll do some.
Why would someone think its in bad taste?
If I don't hear anything by in the morning, I'll post them.
Re: Relief flights
Michel, how come we can't fly into the country? Mandalay International has a 14000 foot runway? Or is it something else?mlegein wrote:Can't fly into Myanmar, so it would have to be Thailand.

Might be because of Vatsim rules....Michel, how come we can't fly into the country? Mandalay International has a 14000 foot runway? Or is it something else?
Even tho i dont think it is in bad tatse.
Plus only one C-130 from USAF has been allowed in so far.
Army controls the country, so they want to save face and disturb Aid and supplies so it looks like to the people
they are saving them.
Thats why all aid workers are in Thailand and all Aid is there also waiting for the go ahead to go in.
It is a joke!

Its a Joke in very bad taste, upto press the Junta in Burma "I refuse to call it Myanmar" have impounded the Supplies that have made it into the Country, all you can see on State Television is Propaganda Shows encouraging the Population to to vote in the Referendum on the New Constitution , which incredibly is still going ahead and Pictures of the Army Generals distributing the impounded Aid to smiling Burmese people, obviously relatives of the Military etc, while in reaity there are Bodies everywhere in the Countryside and Starving Peasants , if ever there was a case of this joke of a UN using Force to save peoples lives ,this is it ! but they will just carry on mouthing Platitudes meanwhile thousands of more people will die unnecessarily. As for the "Relief Flights " do them if you wish ,but to me its like sending them a Virtual Check! its meaningless except for us to have some "fun" pretending we are helping !!Mike Bridge wrote:Might be because of Vatsim rules....Michel, how come we can't fly into the country? I think its a great gesture to do those flights....great way to show that we have this tragic event in mind and that we would want to help....for any kind of real donation to be made, it would be more meaningful for the entire vatsim community to take part in that. However given the fact that not even food and basic supplies can get in there freely, who know where those donations will go...... just my thought, but nice gesture Peter...

Ok, I have set up one flight at this time. Its GTI 100, 747-200, appropriate tail number is posted. Lets see how this goes before we jump in and post too many. If one or two are interested, I'll post for you, but if the flights sit there, they will be deleted.
FYI, these are 4000 plus NM flights. Seems the flights that have been allowed into the country are from France, so that is where we can fly from.
UPDATE: Also looks like flights are going to start from Italy as well. Looks like fuel on the way out could be an issue... We can simulate a short hop to another location for refueling before the return trip, or we can just forget that part, I'll leave it up to the guys that are wanting to fly these routes. But there will be either return trips posted, or maybe a trip to a closer location for resupply, then a return back to the disaster area. Feel free to post your feedback on your desires, but keep in mind, I want to keep things as realistic as possible. ie: return trips. The aircraft won't be automatically placed back in Italy or France, or to another location for re-supply, they have to be flown there.
Sorry, one more update: Since supplies are being stockpiled in Thailand, we can also fly out of there once we deliver the initial drops out of France and Italy.
Reports indicate that the runway at Yangon is now 11,200' but may be 8100' in FS9. If this is going to be an issue, simply make your flight for Mandalay as it has a 14k' runway. Just be sure and let me know so I can make adjustments. Also, flights though limited, are being allowed in... Its the workers that are being refused entry into the country.
